Did you catch our Executive Vice President Josh Foreso at last week’s Bisnow DC Construction & Development Summit panel? Josh joined a panel of his peers to speak to the crowd on solving Washington, DC-related construction opportunities and challenges. The panel discussed how the District is overcoming the current economic challenges, strategies that are being put in place, and what the city is learning from these obstacles. Josh gave insights on how construction companies should do more research and development (R&D) to look at improving ways the industry functions, sharing, "As an industry, construction spends less than 1% of annual revenue on R&D and improving the way we do business. When you look across all the industries out there, it’s a paltry sum of money." HITT seeks to change that with our dedicated R&D department with team members who work diligently each day to find innovative new ways to build! See more of what Josh and his team are building in Washington, DC and around the country here: https://lnkd.in/edDvn_AR

Managing Director || Slade Land Use, Environmental, and Transportation Planning, LLC, (“Slade”) || We build more than buildings, we build communities and people || DBE, MBE, WBE, WOSB,
Embarking on a journey to launch a company was never about having a backup plan for me; it was a clarion call—a mission to bring transformative change to the construction industry. Here's the heart of MY story. 😎 My path was carved through adversity, leading to the birth of Slade LLC, a venture grounded in necessity and courage to venture into new territories. With a diverse background spanning communication studies, political science, urban planning, and law (yes, you read that right! #DidYouKnowThat), I wasn't just ready to challenge the status quo. I was prepared to redefine it! But here's the twist—I wasn't just looking to fill a gap in the construction industry with integrity, innovation, and inclusivity. I was eager to get my hands dirty, literally. Testing the soil, not shying away from the grit and grind of the field, I embraced the essence of construction with open arms. This wasn't a detour from a legal career. No, it was a deliberate choice to embrace a mission that called to me, loudly and clearly. My venture into Slade LLC was proof that the road less traveled often unveils our truest callings. And answering THIS call? It's been the most gratifying decision of my life! Now, I turn to you: What's the most uncommon decision you've ever made in your career, one that raised eyebrows but felt unequivocally right to you? Let me know! #SladeLLC #NotAfraidOfALilDirt #Construction #GeneralContracting #AlabamaContractor

I help construction professionals elevate their impact in the industry. My mission is clear: I empower YOU for unparalleled success and unfair advantage. Founder | Curator | Speaker | Author
FOLLOW-UP ON THE MENTORING IN CONSTRUCTION TOWN HALL: If you were wondering how it went... Phenomenal and amazing are definitely two words I would use to describe the outcomes. The panellists that made up the inaugural event were each in their own right outstanding. But that wasn't a surprise to me. I knew that going in which made achieving the results WE achieved together all that more possible. I am still beside myself as to the discourse, comments, questions, and praise the Constructive Conversations™'s inaugural event produced. Here's an example I got while decompressing on the couch that night. Going over every bit of the event in my mind. Sitting in gratefulness, then the following text message showed up. See below 👇 My mission in life is to leave this world a better place than when I was first welcomed into it. Some of the ways I plan on doing so is to: ✅ Pay it forward ✅ Send the elevator down ✅ Share my knowledge, experience, and wisdom ✅ Make open sourcing all of these things normal in our industry ✅ Held construction professionals help themselves so that they can then help their businesses which includes their teams ✅ Be an ambassador of change for our industry ✅ Be the voice of the underdog ✅ Advocate for better working relationships in our industry which are based on trust, accountability, and transparency *among others) A simple, yet precious, two paragraph text gives so much to me. It acknowledges my vision and hard work. And it affirms that I am going in the right direction. It's also rewarding AF to learn you're inspiring people. If there's something that comes out of this is that I wish everyone in the construction industry either send a text like this to someone that's inspired them. Or to be on the receiving end of one like I got on Monday night. My vision for myself and the industry I work in will be brought to life through my newest endeavour which is the Constructors Guild™. A community for those who build them™ The future looks bright! 🚀 #community #construction #constructionindustry #constructorsguild

The Turner Construction team at Wexford Drexel Academic Tower needed a solution to take back control of their deliveries. Six months into the project, Turner was struggling with their existing calendar application that frequently allowed deliveries to get overwritten and deleted. As a result, multiple deliveries were showing up at the same time, in the same space, competing for the same equipment... which really ticked off trades. They needed help with: ❌ Lack of control over deliveries ❌ Lack of coordination of shared resources ❌ Lack of visibility into what work is going on, where Getting up and running deliveries with StruxHub was faster than Turner could've imagined. The field team successfully transitioned from a failing calendar app to trades booking their own deliveries in StruxHub in a span of only 2 weeks. With the help of StruxHub, Turner was able to: ✔️ Successfully transition from their calendar app to StruxHub in less than two weeks ✔️ Reduce field coordination by getting 90% of trades to book their own deliveries ✔️ Eliminate double bookings of equipment and plan deliveries 10 days in advance “StruxHub was the best money spent on the project,” said one superintendent. The Turner team was able to take back control of their site with the help of StruxHub and the positive experience convinced the team to continue using StruxHub on the fit-out of the neighboring One uCity Square high-rise. Check out the new "Up Close" article featuring Maida Hot.
In reflecting on a career in lighting consultancy, Maida Hot reminisces about a groundbreaking project 30 years ago – the Elizabeth Fry Building at the University of East Anglia. Despite early success in low-energy design, she notes the stagnation in lighting research and advocates for a reevaluation of design criteria in the modern visual environment. Emphasizing the importance of collaboration across disciplines, Maida encourages open communication, vulnerability, and engagement with architects, engineers, and others to enrich lighting designs and foster successful, repeatable partnerships in the industry.
