Diversity is more than colour and race. Therefore, it must not be seen and used as reparations for the injustice suffered by minorities. In our quest to be diverse and give a voice to the voiceless, we end up suppressing other voices. Indirectly saying you have had your share, it is now our turn. It is like only certain people should be allowed to be involved, which by default discriminates. This has created a huge vacuum of silence 🤫 But I am yet to identify any problem that silence has solved. Inclusion should never be about us vs them. Inclusion should unite rather than divide. As we celebrate National Inclusion Week, members of the D&I network are inviting all colleagues across the business to spare some time from their busy schedules and participate in our activities. It's National Inclusion week on 26th September! Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be suggesting things you can do as part of your week. Tip #3 ❓ Host a DEI quiz! This is something that the DEI committee in my previous company came up with - to great success. So much so, they ran several of them over the year. 🏳️🌈 For National Inclusion Week you can either pick a specific theme such as LGBTQIA or 'Religions around the world', or go with a more general DEI theme. 💬 Get people working in teams if you can, it's more likely to create conversation. 🤔 Get creative! There are tools you can use to help you do this, but creative doesn't have to mean complicated, or expensive, and sometimes the homemade approach is more accessible and fun. 🏆 Face to face is great, but you can use virtual spaces just as easily and still have people collaborating in teams to win! 👇 Feel free to drop suggestions for quiz themes in the comments below. ☕ And as ever, if you want to grab a coffee to talk about how Ashby-Cooper Leadership can help you on your DEI journey, drop me a line!
