Fancinating to hear from Kyle Ellis (NASA) Chuck Smith (United Airlines) Augustine Tai (Eve Air Mobility) and Mark Vincent, MSc (IATA) about the evolution from present day SMS to In-Time Aviation SMS and the central role played by operational and risk prioritisation, data fusion and breaking down data silos, and predictive mitigation All of this is within an increasingly complicated and congested airspace. Not since 1952 and the first commercial jet service has there been such a step change in the type and volume of new aviation players including UAS, VLOS and supersonic vehicles. #gettingbetterneverstops #sms #iasms #data

#MSU #RASPET #TEROS #UAS #NASC The NASC Teros™ is a Group 4/5 UAS designed to be operated and fully integrated into the National Airspace System. Teros can fly the programmed mission autonomously and seamlessly within the air traffic control system. Teros achieves an exceptionally high level of Availability, Reliability, and Maintainability (ARM). The ARM process continues to be the primary evaluation criteria for all spiral upgrades, maintenance methods, and procedures. Teros integrates critical redundant flight control systems and a smart electrical system to prevent complex failures. The surprisingly agile Teros features robust construction and durability without sacrificing its lightweight design. With short takeoff and landing capability, fast field assembly, rapid servicing, and autonomous flight operation, Teros is a highly versatile and highly capable aerial platform. https://lnkd.in/eijF8xEP
Takeoff with Teros! We’re flying into our second season of aviation exploration with Teros, the largest, most sophisticated UAS in academic use. Never tired, sleepy, or hungry, Teros was officially unveiled at Raspet Flight Research Laboratory on December 1, 2022. With its 400-pound payload capacity and 24-hr flight endurance, Teros demonstrates the inherent power of #UAS technology to further advance aviation research. #TakingCareOfWhatMatters

✈️ The pilot reports (PIREPs) system — in which pilots submit timely reports of in-flight weather conditions that are relayed to others using the National Airspace System — is outdated, error-prone and incompatible with the many other tasks required of pilots and air traffic controllers, a new report says. Decades of Op experience with coalition partners delivering airborne effects from crewed fleets & UAS for highest priority Maritime patrol, SAR, SOF and UN missions. In Air Reserves.
These “Sparrowhawks” are ALEs (offboarded smaller UAS ) from a larger UAS “mothership”. The ALEs are launched out over higher threat areas to Detect | Locate | ID | Report (DLIR) back by sending multiple sensor encrypted data back thru the “mothership” where its fused at the mothership’s GCS to build a Common Op Picture (COP) of the Battlespace & threats, thus maximizing Situatiomal Awareness fastest. These ALEs can be armed as well, thus becoming a loitering munition (one-way kinetic effect). If not armed and remaining ISR or EW jammer or masking as a another aircraft to reek havoc on adversaries’ Counter Air arsenal, these “Sparrowhawks” can be recovered back to mothership. This builds upon the concept of the “Gremlins” with AC-130J, which collected these ALEs with a tail boom after of the J model. This Uncrewed Uncrewed Teaming (U2T) is an ingenious means to conduct DEEPER ISR sense & EW penetration with effectors into contested battlespaces, so that the motherships may remain further back and out of the “fray” of threats to its survival. This U2T mothership-ALE operation can also be conducted by Group 3 UAS offboarding several ALEs (Group 1) and sense & hunt in ”wolfpack” to achieve maximum force multiplying and Battlespace awareness. This U2T concept is also very useful for broad area sense coverage in searching for ferrous materials underwater in a broad “extended broom” sweep; scanning surfaces for threats; stretching across in this teaming fashion for generation of larger area mosaics of terrain much faster and cheaper than using singular large aircraft with one set of sensors. Also, this U2T can cover more dangerous borders with offboarded ALEs with mothership in arears collecting all data and displaying singular COP for rapid K-chain/web closures in coord with coalition system nodes. This is FORCE MULTIPLYING at its finest.
MQ-9 can carry #SparrowhawkUAS under its wing like a traditional sensor payload. When the MQ-9 reaches an area of interest, it does something few remotely piloted aircraft ever have – launch the smaller UAS and then recover it mid-flight. Learn more: https://ow.ly/YV3b50S6IE1
