Vice President Business Development | Key Account Manager | Oil & Gas | Stakeholder Management | Strategy | Supply Chain | Building relationships to increase company's value and profits
It may sound as an obvious point, but it has ramifications, especially because "China, South Korea and Japan are responsible for constructing nearly the entire world deadweight capacity on order". This is a worry because, if building new vessels follows the same logic of other businesses, new building is more lucrative than retrofitting. The article points out that "It is estimated that over 3,500 ships must be built or refitted annually until 2050, yet the number of shipyards more than halved between 2007 and 2022"; I believe that there is some food for thoughts here... #shippingindustry #emissionsreduction #newvessels #retrofitting #newtechnology

Great to see that Scandlines' new zero direct emissions ferry is now afloat ⛴ She will be named Futura at a naming ceremony in connection with its deployment on the Fehmarn Belt in 2024. With Futura, we make it possible to travel without any direct emissions, as the ferry runs entirely on electricity. At the same time, we have a sharp focus on making the entire journey worth the time - so we have also worked to make the experience on board even better. We believe in a future for ferries, so of course we'll keep on sailing, also after the opening of the Fehmarn Belt fixed link. We invest in a multi-million euro electric ferry, because we have a responsibility to the world around us and because we are convinced that there is a need for journeys that don't just take place behind the wheel on the motorway. This applies to freight drivers, families on holiday and those who just want to go border shopping. #scandlines #zerodirectemissions #fehmarn https://lnkd.in/eRKKj7dD
Today, Scandlines’ new zero direct emissions freight ferry was traditionally launched from the CEMRE SHIPYARD in Turkey. The ferry will be named "Futura" at a naming ceremony in connection with its deployment on the Fehmarn Belt in 2024. This morning, the iron posts holding the hull on the slipway were welded off, allowing the ferry to slide down the slipway and into the sea, where tugboats were waiting to pull it into place at the outfitting quay. The ferry will be docked again before delivery, among other things to be painted. #scandlines ⛴ #zerodirectemissions #fehmarn #futura

Finally it starts to shape.
With pride, we herewith like to share our recent launch in China. Launch being our first hull of a new series "Vliet vessels" of 4 built in China. With the design of Conoship International and final building at Holland Shipyards Group in the Netherlands we have stepped into, what we believe, a more sustainable and environmental solution for the near future. By using diesel electric propulsion and a redesigned shaped hull leading to significant fuel and emission reduction, we will make this happen. In addition the installation of 2 Econowind Ventofoils will give an extra boost in fuel reduction. The vessels will be fully equipped with tween decks, specialized for breakbulk, IMO cargo's and with open top notation. Keep following us to stay updated. #hartelshipping #hollandshipyards #conoship #newbuilding #hudigveder

Chief Operating Officer at the Scottish Africa Business Association - helping Scottish businesses to access an unrivalled network between Scotland and Africa
The first of four ferries being built in Turkey for Scotland's west coast routes will be launched on 16 March, ferry owner CMAL has announced. The MV Isle of Islay is then scheduled to arrive in Scotland in October this year and will serve Islay and Jura. The four ferries for CalMac routes are being built at the Cemre Marin Endustri shipyard in Yalovan. The work comes amidst continued frustration among island communities at the state of west coast services. Two late and over-budget ferries being built at the nationalised Ferguson Marine yard in Inverclyde, which were due to launch this spring, could face a further two-month delay. The Glen Sannox and Glen Rosa now have a price tag of at least £360m - compared to an initial estimate of £97m - for their construction at the yard in Port Glasgow.
