From the greatest generation to Gen Alpha and beyond - The ever evolving talent course. The entry of the younger generation has altered the workplace dynamics, challenging the well-established leadership style in every context. While many organizations are aware of this perpetual process, it's time that they start talking about more in their strategic decisions and operational alignment. The talent strategy to build the bench from the bottom and ensure a robust pipeline of young talent for the long term is an ever-challenging phenomenon that needs systematic interventions and continued focus to derive value from each proposition the organization has offered to such young talent. Though the initiatives to attract and engage them seem robust and innovative in design, sometimes you may be surprised by the attrition analysis and related metrics for exit reasons going in many directions. Young talent often comes with passion and purpose on top of their list, whilst perseverance needed to demonstrate desired values is a distant reality in many places, with the ask for continuous communication for engaging them and coaching for inspiration appearing on the daily checklist of leaders. That said, mental health issues are also on the rise in this workforce demography and expected to go up drastically. Great first day of talent connect & these were a few key takeaways; 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐖𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝 - An inspiring message from The Honorable Dame Jacinda Ardern on the importance of encouraging us to proactively reach out to tap new leaders, and seeking out a new form of leadership rooted in kindness, curiosity, courage, and empathy. One of the most striking quotes from her talk was this: "How come we encourage these qualities in our children, but yet don't demand the same from our leaders?" 2) 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 - Ryan Roslansky encouraged all of us to throw out the old playbooks and build new ones for the new world of work, and encouraged talent leaders to lead the way. It reminds me of my favorite Einstein quote, "You cannot use an old map to explore a new world" 3) 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 - Multiple sessions had this one theme of uniting across the entire talent team (TA, TD/ L&D, etc) to deliver on the employee experience. This is especially true when it comes to initiatives that touch so many people in your org, such as internal mobility and career development 4) 𝐔𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 - You can't talk about anything these days without talking about tech, and specifically AI. Blown away by some of the work that Wal-Mart, lead by Chief People Officer Donna Morris is doing around using GenAI to improve the entire talent management experience for their employees.
