The NOAA Satellite and Information Service 2024 NESDIS Outstanding Science and Research Team Member Award recognizes “a group or individual for demonstrated excellence in the areas of providing sensor-derived products and interpretive analyses; acquiring, processing, and storing environmental data and ground processing systems; and improving on existing environmental information products to enhance utility, clarity, or efficiency.” Nancy Casey and Diana Kantor were recognized for the tireless work on NCEI’s Global Historical Climatology Network hourly (GHCNh) (https://bit.ly/ghcnh) datasets.The GHCNh datasets consist of hourly and synoptic surface weather observations from land-based stations, compiled from numerous data sources maintained by NOAA, U.S.Air Force, and other Met Services agencies around the globe. From project proposal to execution, Nancy and Diana went above and beyond the scope of the project and provided cohesion, professionalism, and collaboration with external partners.
