During the holidays you may notice some changes in your loved ones and start to think about their future. If you can help them create a plan for their later years before they turn 75, you would be doing them and yourself a huge service. Moving to a senior community can be an excellent option and should happen while your loved ones are still healthy. Such a move poses financial, emotional, contractual, and logistical issues, not to mention the challenge of researching the best options.    There is now a tool from Newsweek and Statista to help families evaluate continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs), also known as lifeplan communities (link in comments below). Nothing beats an in-person tour meeting staff and residents, or talking with an expert, but this provides some context to begin the process.    Data was collected in the twenty states with the largest number of CCRCs: California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, and Virginia. This information includes both for-profit and not-for-profit entities and represents about 10% of all CCRCs in the US. Hopefully, the scope of this ranking will expand over time to include even more communities, but this is a great start, especially as we make plans for the new year.   #seniorliving #seniortransition #nextnestadvisors
