What is the #VRDT? It's a service transformer (25 kVA - 9500 kVA) that is integrated with an on-load tap-changer. Andries Wantenaar, Senior Analyst, Rethink Energy Ben Hutt, CEO, Evergen Conrad Oakey, CEO, NovaTech Automation Donald McPhail, VP Product, Uplight We’ve recently seen VPP schemes set in motion which by 2025 are to cover several percentage points of total peak load in markets as large as Germany and the metropolis of Shenzhen - with VPPs crossing the line from hundreds of MW each, to the multi-gigawatt scale. That is just the beginning as electrification, distributed energy resources and battery adoption all enter high gear. Once intermittent solar and wind form a majority of the power mix, the grid’s ability to operate reliably will rely on battery energy storage. Those batteries will be governed by VPPs, making their financial and digital structures the most crucial element on the decarbonized grid of the future – with VPPs both providing strategic grid security and reaping the benefits of ever more variable power prices. The fundamental purpose of a VPP is to decide when to discharge its batteries – as well as when to invoke demand response. This decision-making process relies on forecasts of demand and supply which are both becoming more complex and unpredictable as electrification and Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) progress. The more diverse the generation, battery, and demand response assets a VPP has, the better. With that in mind, and given that VPP adoption requires little to no physical infrastructure – we’re left asking what the real limiting factor is to this industry. InnoNet-Energy is finished! Last November we officially concluded the InnoNed-Energy project and we recently published a brief booklet summarizing our results. The main goal of the project was to understand information networks of actors on the supply and demand-side of energy management systems integrated with photovoltaics and electromobility in Switzerland. We particularly focused on social and spatial proximity effects and their role in the diffusion of energy technologies in the residential building sector. Some of our take aways are: - energy technology adopters are mostly homeowners - a high share of energy technology co-adoption reveals EMS potential - Energy technology bundles are highly relevant while PV triggers EV - Perceived financial viability of energy technologies is low - Exchanges take place within personal activity space around the home - Energy technology adopters mostly exchange information with local supply-side actors - Events and associations have a brokerage role and connect actors from different fields If you are interested in reading the booklet, let me know and I can share the PDF with you :) #sfoe #energytechnologies #energy #pv #electromobility #renewableenergies #energytransition #epfl https://lnkd.in/d33SxG2G
