Head of Offshore Technology Development @ SAIPEM | Regional Director - Europe @SPE | Energy, Offshore, Engineering, Construction
𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞! 🇷🇴🇵🇱🇭🇷 It took me some time to share with you my trips in May to Eastern Europe, so I decided that I would catch up by raising up the ante on the format of the post, with a short video 😉 Enjoy! After Zagreb in March, I’m thrilled to share some insights into some of the SPE’s activities in Romania and Poland. Our association has been at the forefront of driving innovation and collaboration in Eastern Europe, a region that is critical to the European’s energy security. And our latest initiatives are testament to this commitment. 𝑬𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒚 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒔𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑬𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏 𝑬𝒖𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒆 ⚙️ Eastern Europe is experiencing a dynamic growth in its energy landscape; the region is poised to become a significant player in global energy markets. With the contribution of a new frontier area offshore in the Black Sea, Romania is for example set to be the #1 gas producer in Europe - and net exporter - in 2027. And most resources in the region remain untapped. 𝑻𝒆𝒄𝒉𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑬𝒙𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 🔬 But this growth is embedded in a long-lasting tradition of technical excellence. Petrochemical industry’ birthplaces in Europe were Jaslo (Poland) 1854, and Ploeisti (Romania) 1856. Did you know that Ploiesti actually hosted the first large-scale refining facility in the world? Large Universities like AGH were born quite simultaneously early in the 20th century, and today professors like Szymon Kuczyński are still perpetuating a tradition of educational excellence. 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐨𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 💙🌟 Beyond technical achievements, the cultural vibrancy of the East plays a crucial role in the growth of membership in Europe. The region is not just a hub for energy resources but also a melting pot that fuels both conviviality and creativity. I had for example the pleasure to participate to (and win, obviously 😉) the Energy Transition game organized by Aleksander Pyzik in Krakow, a very creative exercise to engage all stakeholders in the room towards balanced energy scenarios. Eastern Europe is known for the warmth and generosity of its people, making every interaction a memorable one; And SPE totally believes in the power of community and having fun. Ioana Popescu Gabrijel G. 🔺 Marius Nitu 🔺, Ioana Mitrea, Eliza Iordache, Vasile Cosmin Trif, Jakub Slek, Stanislaw Nagy, Stanisław Łaciak, K. Laba, W. Ornat, Filip Studziński, Congratulations! The #TechDays and #EastMeetsWest congress have shown both the academic and joyous sides of our volunteer work, where students and professionals come together to innovate AND celebrate. I cannot wait for the next steps, the #PESS with Professor Daria Karasalihovic Sedlar, then SPE Vienna Basin Section and the Europe Energy Conference in Torino, Italy [https://lnkd.in/eXYF5BAT] #WeAreSPE #Energy #Innovation #EasternEurope #CulturalDiversity PS: Joelle El Sayegh , congrats on your big news ;)

In my view, Europe is now presented with a chance for 're-regionalization' of its industries, with the potential to create new hubs of industrial activity. Coastal regions, in particular, stand out as prime areas to serve as valuable 'landing ports' for cost-effective #GreenEnergy, driving industrial development. This becomes very relevant to the Mediterranean countries and opening big opportunities for Energy companies. 🌎 However, to turn this into reality, companies must invest in the necessary infrastructure, contracts, and market mechanisms. These steps are essential to ensure a reliable and affordable supply of green energy, which, in turn, will maintain the competitiveness of European industries. Explore how Europe can achieve this transformation and reform its industrial sector with our in-depth insights. Discover more in our article! https://bit.ly/3QxhbrU #RolandBerger

B2B enterprise tech Go-to-market | Put the right scaling foundations in place | Mentor & Freelance VP Marketing
Join our Nocturne on December 5th in Antwerp! We'll dive deep into the Nordics and the Baltic Sea #energytransition, co-hosted by Sirris | Innovation forward and Agoria Energy Technology Club. We will spotlight the advancements and market growth in countries such as Sweden and Finland, and how they are setting the pace with their rich wind capabilities. Why it matters? 1. The Nordic region, consisting of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland, is a leader in #renewableenergy. These countries have been at the forefront of renewable energy since the start of the 20th century. We examine what factors have contributed to the likes of Finland’s rise to the top of clean energy generation and the opportunities that lie ahead for the region. 2. Because the Baltic Sea is shallow, has low wave heights, and neglectable tides, it provides very good prerequisites to install large offshore #windpower devices. The full potential of offshore wind power can be exploited if the countries around the Baltic Sea established large transnational meshed offshore wind grids based on the same standards and methodology. 3. In the The Marienborg Declarations, eight EU countries bordering the Baltic Sea, including Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden, committed in 2022 to increase their offshore wind power capacity to 20 gigawatts (GW) by 2030, a sevenfold increase. This decision aims to reduce their dependence on Russian energy. 4. Currently, the Baltic Sea has 2.8 GW of offshore wind capacity, mainly in Danish and German waters. The proposed 20 GW would be sufficient to power 20 million homes. The Baltic Sea has the potential of hosting up to 93 GW in offshore wind farms by 2040. 5. Finnish and Swedish transmission system operators, along with #offshorewind developers, plan to develop a large-scale offshore #hydrogen pipeline connecting Finland, Sweden, and Central Europe by 2030. The Baltic Sea Hydrogen Collector (BHC) project aims to link Finland, Sweden, the Åland islands and Germany. It leverages offshore wind potential in Bothnia Bay and the Baltic Sea, fostering a robust hydrogen market and connecting supply and demand. The key market opportunities we will explore - The Nordics' role in offshore wind power to produce electrons and molecules (hydrogen) and insights in the planned projects towards 2030. - Insights into the rapid growth of wind power and hydrogen projects across the Nordic countries, emphasising Sweden's and Finland's advancements. - The developments in the Baltic Sea and the lessons learned in this region. - The energy trilemma faced by the Nordic and Baltic regions and measures to ensure security, affordability, and sustainability in the green transition. - Geopolitical dynamics and their influence on energy security and market opportunities, particularly in light of recent events involving Russia and Ukraine. - Offshore wind opportunities towards 2050 in Iceland and Greenland. See you there?
