My new interdisciplinary review paper on turbulent flows in fluids and plasmas has been published today! I attempt to make the case that there are plenty of opportunities for cross-disciplinary research between the two fields.

📃Scientific paper: Photochemistry and Haze Formation Abstract: One of the many exciting revelations of the New Horizons flyby of Pluto was the observation of global haze layers at altitudes as high as 200 km in the visible wavelengths. This haze is produced in the upper atmosphere through photochemical processes, similar to the processes in Titan's atmosphere. As the haze particles grow in size and descend to the lower atmosphere, they coagulate and interact with the gases in the atmosphere through condensation and sticking processes that serve as temporary and permanent loss processes. New Horizons observations confirm studies of Titan haze analogs suggesting that photochemically produced haze particles harden as they grow in size. We outline in this chapter what is known about the photochemical processes that lead to haze production and outline feedback processes resulting from the presence of haze in the atmosphere, connect this to the evolution of Pluto's atmosphere, and discuss open questions that need to be addressed in future work. Continued on ES/IODE ➡️ https://etcse.fr/LvE ------- If you find this interesting, feel free to follow, comment and share. We need your help to enhance our visibility, so that our platform continues to serve you.

Excited to share our new research paper (https://lnkd.in/g_bgc78q) published in Acta Geotechnica entitled “Data-driven discovery of interpretable water retention models for deformable porous media” (authors = Hyoung Suk Suh, Jun Young Song, Yejin Kim, Xiong Yu, Jinhyun Choo). In this work, we proposed a data-driven approach that can automatically discover an interpretable model describing the water retention behavior of a deformable porous material. We also demonstrated the portability of the discovered model by incorporating it into continuum-scale simulations, revealing the potential of capturing the multi-scale nature of unsaturated flow without significant computational cost.

Check out our latest featured article where researchers utilized the next generation SpaceProp2 analysis tool to explore Freedom Space. (https://lnkd.in/gxAs7PCK) In 2022, SpaceProp was introduced as the first tool for the calculation of property distributions for full fragment spaces. Now, with SpaceProp2, the exploration expands to include new chemical spaces. Research demonstrates that despite being the smallest size, Freedom Space contains molecules with larger TPSA values and more rotatable bonds than all other spaces. Many thanks to the authors: Justin Lübbers, Uta Lessel, and Matthias Rarey. #chemspace #openscience #research #science #drugdiscovery #chemicals #medicinalchemistry #drugdevelopment #chemistry #researchanddevelopment #search #chemicalindustry #science #structures

What does the UP-TO-ME project aim to achieve? The project aims to engineer the 3D-printed metal reactor and structured packings. Specifically, it focuses on the development of a metal 3D-printed methanol synthesis reactor with optimised channel geometry for the catalyst deposition strategy. This will result in at least a 15% reduction in costs in relation to the competing micro channel manufacturing technologies. To find out more about this objective, visit our website and stay tuned to our social media for more project objectives. EYIC minisymposium You still have a few days to send an abstract to the EYIC minisymposium at the ECCOMAS congress in Lisbon! The EYIC mini works quite differently from a regular mini, so you can send an abstract to it IN ADDITION TO sending an abstract to a regular mini! In particular, you can a) present in pairs (duet or duel, up to you!); b) present things that did not work out as expected; c) present unsolved problems. Sounds great, isn’t it? For more information, see the congress website at https://lnkd.in/dSaBezBx #mathematics #engineering #computationalmechanics #lisbon

https://lnkd.in/dBWMnPvE My first theory project has been published recently. We have suggested a simple analytic model encompassing several parity-time phase transitions in a ternary setting. A fun thing we discovered was that a reentrant parity-time phase transition (PT phase recovery through a monotonic varying parameter) is topologically robust, being protected by the Z topology of anisotropic exceptional points. Special thanks to the co-1st author Kai Zhang and my research mentor Hui Deng.
