#LANJIndustryNews: 🗞️ NYC and the MTA will introduce congestion tolling that will increase drivers' tolls to enter points of Manhattan south of 60th Street in Spring 2024. Carlos Waters of CNBC reports that the zone-based tolling program, the first of its kind in the U.S., can potentially generate 15 billion dollars in yearly revenue; according to Richard Davey, president of New York City's Transit Authority, the organization will use the money to finance: - Four New Metro-North stations for communities in the Bronx 🚆 - Implementation of Clean Bus Technology by 2025 🚌 - Track, Power, & Signal Upgrades Throughout NYC 🚦 While the exact price of the toll has yet to be determined, the price is expected to cost between $9 and $23. By law, passenger vehicles will be charged once a day, while commercial and ride-share services will be charged per trip. 🚐 City of Barrie Expands Their Microtransit Service! 🚐 Four years ago, the Barrie Transit team and RideCo On-Demand Transit introduced on-demand transit to help reshape public transportation in the city. With the service's continued success and high customer satisfaction, Transit ON Demand has now expanded to a total of five zones with plans to add two more in the future. This efficient mobility solution replaces underutilized fixed routes and provides a flexible service for riders. Jason Zimmerman C.Tech., Project Manager at Barrie Transit, shared his insights on the expansion with CTV News: "Each Transit ON Demand zone has been strategically designed to provide a direct travel option to and from their basic amenities - medical, groceries, [and] commercial restaurants." This marks the seventh consecutive month of year-over-year growth in ridership. The monthly bus and #rail ridership has now reached 81% of its pre-pandemic level in 2019. Weekend ridership is even stronger at 91% of pre-pandemic levels on average....LA Metro’s efforts to restore bus ridership includes hiring more than 1,000 bus operators since 2022 and installing more than 30 miles of #bus priority lanes in partnership with the City of Los Angeles." --Intelligent Transport

🚄 Brightline Trains a private inter-city train company in Florida, has introduced a new service connecting Miami and Orlando, and has also received approval to expand its routes from Southern California to Las Vegas in the Western region of the United States.
