For our #decarbonisation, we need competitive green #hydrogen delivered to our RHI Magnesita energy intensive raw material production in Austria! And now we will make it happen! Together with AMAG Austria Metall, Gas Connect Austria, LAT Nitrogen, OMV, VERBUND AG, voestalpine und Wiener Stadtwerke GmbH, we have formed the Hydrogen Import Alliance Austria (#HIAA) across major energy suppliers and consuming industry in Austria. We are working jointly to enable a long-term supply of competitive green hydrogen, to reach our ambitious #sustainability goals without jeopardizing the strong industry base across Austria, securing more than 40.000 jobs here. We aim to have competitive hydrogen imported by pipeline into the country by 2030, covering up to 50% of the hydrogen consumption in Austria. To make this a reality, a number of hurdles still remain though: prohibitive CAPEX funding gap, third country risk management (e.g. North Africa production site); last mile connection within Austria (e.g. our sites in Styria & Tyrolia); challenging OPEX economics (hydrogen needs to be <3 EUR/kg); regulatory jurisdiction & approval (e.g. for transport and local usage of hydrogen) ... Clearly, we will not be able to solve this all in the #HIAA alone and we are very much counting on our political establishment in #Austria and the #EU to fully commit to make this a competitive reality! This step-up is critical to achieve our common goal of achieving #netzero! Lets drive this together for our competitive green future!
