We’ve just completed a fascinating experiment to uncover how different types of biomass, like branches and leaves, decompose in oxygen-free (anoxic) environments and natural field conditions! 🪵🍃 Our study, Quantifying Marine Biomass Decomposition: Methodological Challenges and Insights, not only assessed how these materials break down but also tested the chemical changes in the solution during decomposition. Using four different methods—dry-weight loss, total carbon comparison, sulfate concentration changes, and biomass carbon content analysis—we gained valuable insights into the decomposition process. The study also confirmed the environmental safety of depositing biomass in anoxic environments. Want to dive deeper into our findings?
