Forestry England have bold ambitions to let nature transform more than 8,000 hectares of land in four of the nation’s forests. 🌳🌲 Last week a few of us were able to spend a few days with Forestry England's Forest Wilding team at Kielder Forest discussing potential approaches to #rewilding, ecosystem restoration and nature-friendly forestry. It was brilliant to join the Kielder team to discuss their vision and plans for the future wilding area. Covering 6,000ha, this is one of the most important landscape-scale ecosystem restoration projects in Britain. Spending time at one of the biggest ecosystem restoration projects in Britain was tree-mendous! Thanks for showing us around. Photos: All Sara King / Rewilding Britain
The crucial point here is that we can do different things in different places - admittedly Forestry England has an advantage in having a huge estate and over 1,000 woods - which gives a lot of scope for variety ! Later this week I'm going to one of the other sites - Neroche Forest where I led the first phase of change in 2001 - and really looking forward to seeing the next step.
I’m so thrilled to watch this amazing project gather pace. Well done, Kevin and team.
I love this! 😍
