Engineered Wetlands! Normally I am a bit down on what's going down in Florida, but not this time. Really tremendous work going on in repairing, improving, augmenting, preserving the everglades. Fantastic. There is a bit of a theme emerging in some of my posts, I call it 'Terraforming Terra'. Accepting that we as humans ARE directly wrecking the ecosystem, and further that it is within our power to repair, improve and sustain it instead. Please join me in recognizing that we ALL need to evolve our thinking, our interactions with nature, our societies, and our business practices to make room for future generations of all forms of life. Future life does not consume today, does not speak today, and does not invest today, however, future generations are the ULTIMATE stakeholders. Sustain the future, we must. And, no, those who die with the most toys do not win, they just doom all of us with their childish antics. We hear so much about decarbonisation and saving the planet through changing of our lives away from carbon based technologies. However, conservation of the species we share this planet with is just as important and is relegated to second place in many instances. Just note the number of posts on global warming, climate change and decarbonisation VS conservation of habitat and the species inhabiting this fragile earth. We need to address both issues with the same priority or else we will have a planet one day without animals or a planet that dies and the animals dying as well. We share this planet with the plant and animal kingdoms and need to make sure what we action is for the sake of all living things, not just us humans. We humans caused this and we humans must fix the problem!

Wonderful interview, but I do wonder why no one speaks on the overall characteristics of western hemlock - which is generally not a vastly long living species in our forests and subject to so many pathogens? And leaving the forests there to just ‘do their thing’ means regeneration of thick carpets of what ? More hemlock. It’s the dandelion of the forest and will take over very quickly. 80-100 years from now, back to the same issues. The removal and reforestation with Douglas-fir and western red cedar is key to a resilient forest.
