Stripe further componentizes its payments and embedded finance services? Flagship Advisory Partners attended Stripe Sessions earlier this month. We summarize what we heard and our reactions in our latest insights. My biggest takeaway: several releases such as "Vault and Forward" API and "Unbundled Connect" allow businesses to use non-Stripe payments products without Stripe payments (aka playing nice with other PSPs/Acquirers/Processors), a major departure from Stripe's payments-first proposition and a clear bet that standalone BaaS capabilities will be a serious growth driver for the business moving forward. This is also another big step for Stripe moving up-market, where large enterprises want a modern fintech partner, but also want strategic flexibility and the ability to work with "best of breed" providers (however they define this). Fun fact: If you've used PayPal you've likely already been a beneficiary of an autonomous system. Sedai's Suresh Mathew explains to Lisa Martin of SiliconANGLE & theCUBE how scaling challenges Suresh was facing at PayPal (namely achieving high availability, low latency AND cost efficiency at the same time) led him to first build an autonomous system handling 2M autonomous remediations per year. Here's a hot take - Duffel.io is in the lead for company most likely to disrupt travel in the same manner Stripe disrupted online payment processing. Ease of use, abstract the complexity, make it easy to install, and suddenly what wasn't accessible to 'anyone' is accessible to 'everyone'. There is work to be done - but I'm impressed. I'm curious if I'm either misreading what they are doing, or if there are alternatives with a similar value proposition. Many of you have spent a lot of time analyzing these companies - what is your opinion?
