Dimension Renewable Energy wants to train 1500 people for good solar jobs over the next few years (you can read more about our commitment below). So now the work begins: what are the best entry points for #solarjobs in California post-NEM 3.0? I'm curious to hear from other #solar developers, workforce development agencies and trainers, funders, and general #cleantech followers. We're seeing residential solar installs down around 22% since the implementation of NEM 3.0, per California Solar & Storage Association. Dimension has already heard from some of our partners in CA that resi firms aren't hiring entry-level installers right now. We're hopeful for the launch of a permanent CA #communitysolar program soon and the small-scale commercial jobs that will create. What other jobs should we prepare folks for as an entry point to a clean energy career? Are they in battery storage, utility-scale, general electric, contracting? Are you hiring for a renewables role and want to make sure you're getting the best candidate? Reference checks are key, but asking the right questions can make all the difference.⚡️   Start by asking the candidate about work ethic. You want someone who is reliable and can handle the demands of a renewables job. Get specifics: Did they consistently meet deadlines? Were they proactive on taking on tasks?   Next, delve into their technical skills. Renewables roles often require specialised knowledge. Ask if the candidate demonstrated a strong grasp of the tools and processes used in their previous position. Were they quick to learn new skills? Did they show initiative in solving ones technical problem?   Finally, don't forget to ask about punctuality and attendance. A great worker isn't much help if they're not there. Confirm that the candidate was dependable and had a good attendance record.   By asking these questions, you'll get a clearer picture of whether your candidate is the right fit for the role.
