"A tradition unlike any other" "Hello friends" I can literally hear the voice of Jim Nantz, just by typing those words. Green, yellow, white, pink ... Talk about "on brand" - somebody knows what they are doing. The Masters is special because they make it special: - Exclusive waiting list for tickets - Constant reference to attendees as "patrons" - A (or should I say THE?!) course that not everyone can pay to play - They literally call it "A Tradition Unlike Any Other" Branding makes a difference. There are 36 PGA events. There are 3 other Major tournaments. But none of them stand out to me like the Masters. (Not to me anyway.) Gather round my friends, for a fan analysis, as I fanalyze the AFL’s latest Gather Round. They called it a “Festival of Footy.” As a Carlton coach once put it, there were green shoots of potential. But if the feisty Bomber’s coach Brad Scott had been to the festivities, he’d have been screaming into two phones at once demanding more. Don’t get me wrong. I loved the family road trip to Adelaide for the footy. Especially because Carlton won. But as a festival, it never quite reached those same lofty heights as the time Angry Anderson drove out onto the ground in a Batmobile singing ‘Bound for Glory.’ There were plenty of queues for fans of all ages. You could queue up for half an hour to get your photo taken with the words, Oh What A Feeling. And it seemed like Maccas blew its budget on a food stand in the shape of fries. But like the scent of frying oil, a question lingered in the air – why couldn’t the sponsors get involved in a more meaningful way? If it is to become a festival of footy, why not be a celebration of our great game – its Indigenous roots, the legends, and historic nail-biting finishes? Why was there no representation from AFLW? And why not include the fans and reward them in a way that makes those that gathered want to gather again, and those that didn’t, wish they had? I guess it’s something to kick around for next time. Well, this isn't the post we thought we would be making this morning... We were full of excitement yesterday driving to Blenheim Palace for the long-awaited Game Fair yesterday, and ready to put up the stand and start getting ready to welcome visitors… Sadly, the wind was soon taken out of our sails because when we arrived, we were told there had been a mix-up with the size and location of our stand. We had booked way back in December, but there was another company’s stand already set up in our spot! We spent the next 5.5 hours communicating with the organisers (who we were told had other similar cases of missing stand slots and a rather large backlog at the gate to deal with) but were told that repositioning wasn’t available. There was seemingly nowhere else they could put us. Kyle and I tried to come up with a solution, for example turning the marquee so it was narrow and long and might squeeze in somewhere, but this presented some issues with the racing sim being potentially unsafe… The other businesses exhibiting in our row were amazing and very supportive, at one point trying to move their stands to accommodate us, but it wasn’t to be. So, by the evening and after a long day either driving or sitting stationary in the van, we were en route home with an empty weekend stretching ahead to fill. We’ve removed the social posts we’d scheduled and contacted everyone who wanted to meet this weekend to chat about websites and tech. We hope to be there next year - maybe with a bigger stand to make up for the wasted days of prep?! #onwardsandupwards #changeofplans
