With 1/3 of consumers’ carbon footprint coming from goods they buy, the retail industry has a critical role in helping the UK to cut carbon emissions. Through the Climate Action Roadmap, BRC’s members aim to reach net zero by 2040 – a decade ahead of the UK’s target. Today we want to spotlight just a handful of the amazing initiatives of some our members who are actively working to reduce the environmental impact of their operations and the goods they sell🌍, encourage the reuse, recycling and repair of products♻️, and innovate for a greener tomorrow🌿. 📣 This transition to net zero could go further and faster with the right policy environment, so we are calling on the government to #BuyIntoRetail and help us deliver the circular economy. We want policymakers to drive forward investment and research into renewable energy and net zero vehicles 💸, implement recycling schemes that deliver  for  the environment, businesses and households ♻️ and work with the industry to develop key legislation📜. 🗣 Today, i participated in a panel at The Consumer Goods Forum sustainable retail summit. The Consumer Goods Forum gathers the world’s retailers and consumer goods manufacturers to collaborate. The theme for today was "Addressing Circularity Through the Lens of Food Loss and Waste" 🏆 I shared the panel with Chris Franke (Walmart), Tony McElroy (Tesco), Johannes Bachstädter (ALDI SÜD) - moderated by Kai Robertson. Amazing to see how the focus on food waste has intensified over the last few years! And also to experience how the worlds largest retailers are tackling this enormous problem 👈 One of the repeated statements today was: Food waste reduction is good for margins and great for the planet. We share the this view at REDUCED.

Today, we celebrate Steve Clarke FCMI MBA (He / Him), Beko plc’s Head of Sustainability and Quality, for his recent completion of the University of Cambridge's ‘Circular Economy and Sustainability Strategies’ course, deepening our company’s understanding in this vital area. During the 6-week course, Steve learned how businesses can operate and govern themselves through the services they offer, as well as within the products they sell, to create lasting impacts in support of a circular model. Steve’s enhanced understanding will enable him to further drive Beko plc’s current commitments and initiatives to enhance the lifespan of our appliances, helping support a more sustainable future by creating appliances in a way that respects the environment.
