🌍 Acknowledging Our Roots: The Power of Land and Labor Acknowledgements in Education 🙏 Hello, fellow educators and learners! 👋 Today, I'd like to delve into a practice that's close to my heart and integral to our learning journey at Clover Park Technical College: Land and Labor Acknowledgements. 🏞️ Dr. Betsy Hasegawa, Associate Vice President of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at South Seattle College, beautifully explains the importance of these acknowledgements. In her words, "We are place-based... on lands that have a deep history and a legacy... cared for by the first people who have made sure that the lands, air, water, and all the creatures are still in as good a shape as they can be for us to do the work that we're going to do." 🌳 https://lnkd.in/giwN-Bz2 Land and Labor Acknowledgements remind us that we are not without history. We are here because of relationships, and acknowledging the first people of these lands is an honest way of recognizing our place in this legacy. It's a moment of reflection, a nod to our interconnectedness, and a step towards fostering a deeper relationship with our environment and its history. 🌍 I first encountered these acknowledgements at NCORE 2023, where they were presented before every session. Inspired, I began incorporating them into my courses and have continued to do so. Now, we've included them in our Base Camp at Clover Park Technical College, encouraging other faculty to adopt this practice. 🎓 How do you acknowledge the history and legacy of the land and labor in your educational practices? Drop a comment and let's discuss! 🗨️ #education #learning #teaching #professionaldevelopment #inclusiveeducation #edtech #LandAcknowledgement #LaborAcknowledgement

Did you know that hardworking and ambitious students face challenges in accessing postsecondary credentials? Only 14% of Houston's lower-income students who started 8th grade in 2012 received a postsecondary credential within six years of high school graduation. At BridgeYear, we're determined to change this narrative by offering Certification Cohorts that help defy this statistic within just three months of high school graduation. Our focus is on empowering the next generation of skilled leaders, providing hands-on experiences, and fostering ambition to build a brighter path from education to employment. Collaboration is key! Today, I share with you a remarkable collaboration taking place in Rogers County. With the visionary partnership of The Claremore Industrial and Economic Development Authority, the City of Claremore, Rogers County, and Rogers State University, they are spearheading a transformative workforce training initiative and micro-credential scholarship program. In a time when Rogers County is experiencing an encouragingly low unemployment rate of 2.8 percent, the need to fill high-wage positions in various sectors is both a challenge and an opportunity. Recognizing this potential, these agencies have come together to invest in the future, committing over $150,000 to training scholarships. Through diverse technical programs such as CNC Machining, Welding, and Healthcare, and the innovative micro-credential scholarship program, we are not only addressing immediate staffing needs but also laying the groundwork for long-term community growth and prosperity. This initiative stands as a testament to what can be achieved when community stakeholders work collectively, aligning their resources, passion, and expertise. I invite all eligible Rogers County residents to explore these extraordinary opportunities, for they signify not just a path to a fulfilling career but the realization of dreams and potential. For inquiries, please reach out to Claremore Economic Development at (918) 283-8240 or [email protected]. To apply for the scholarship today and to learn more about qualifications and offerings, click the link below. Together, we're building a brighter future for Rogers County, creating pathways for education, and empowering lives. #RogersCounty #WorkforceDevelopment #EducationForAll #CommunityCollaboration
