Studying child and adult occupants at the same time (and not the former after the latter) may help us to better understand safety challenges and solutions for occupants of all ages. This is particularly relevant in the context of novel seating configurations for autonomous vehicles. When #hospitals reach capacity, #Black patients die more. Who suffers the most at high capacity strain? Black #patients with high medical need. Why? #Providers start rationing hospital beds by race instead of medical need. Another reason: under strain, providers also ration effort by race. Black patients' notes are shorter, less complex and more subjective -- attributes correlated with less effort. #Racism is real in #healthcare. Its effects are quantifiable. It’s long overdue in the year 2024 for #medicalschools, #residency, hospitals and #physicians to deal with it.
