Winning can be a humbling experience. I was lucky and was qualified for the two pre-world cup paragliding competitions in Australia held over the last 2 weeks. Over several days pilots flying specific tasks and aim to get to goal as quick as possible. Other there would have been a repeat of Steven Bradbury 2002 Winter Olympic event, there was close to zero chance for me to either win one of these competitions nor a specific day. Australia’s and some of the world-best and most experienced pilots participated in the two competitions, all equipped with the fastest gliders and best equipment's equivalent to driving a Formula1 car, whilst I was rocking my equivalent Fiat Uno. My winning strategy was not about being first crossing the finish line. It was about: 🔼 Pushing my boundaries whilst remaining safe. 🔼 Observing and learning from others, how they behave, use their equipment, how they fly and what decisions they make. 🔼 Adjusting and testing to understand what works and what doesn’t with my equipment and skills. 🔼 Identify my skill gaps and get feedback how to improve. 🔼 Make it to the start line (up at cloud-base) with the leaders every day. 🔼 Not ending last in a competition day and across a full competition (after all it was about racing 😀). The 2 weeks were hard. At times very frustrating, feeling inadequate and far of being a winner. Formula1 pilots would leave me behind just after 2min post start and I was scrambling my way across the mountains and land out way short before making it to goal. However, on the last day, I managed to cross the finish line the first time, and even before some of the Formula1 pilots. 🌟 I felt like the biggest winner. And not because I made goal but because all my friends and supporting pilots at the goal and online were celebrating my achievement with me when approaching the finish line! No gold medal but positive, encouraging and inspiring experiences on the way supporting me to improve who I am and what I do. A big present indeed. 🥇 #transformation #leadershipdevelopment #development #riskmanagement #growthmindset #shapethefuture #leadthechange

Three cheers to our Timo Aaltonen for showing how one can balance personal life and hobbies with an enriching experience in the technology sector over decades. Check out the post below for more.
Hansen’s own Timo Aaltonen has not only 30 years of experience in the technology industry, but following the 2023 Finnish Karting Championship, he is also ranked within the top 10 drivers for the KZ2 shifter class! “It's all possible,” he says. “With the right commitment and focus. It’s like anything – you just need to put in the right time and for me on the circuit, this has meant that I have to train twice as hard as the younger drivers, but I love it!” With summer in Europe fast approaching, Timo’s gearing up to do it all again with the upcoming Finnish Championship series, which will start at the end of June and span three weekends. From all of us here at Hansen, best of luck to you, Timo, for your upcoming races!

If you are a fan of Formula 1, Formula E and all forms of Motorsport UK, you'll know that it is a difficult industry to get into, demanding a lot of time and money spent at the grass roots level to get started - and then a combination of talent, opportunity and luck to progress to its higher tiers - which is why a lot of kids don't see themselves represented on the racetrack, in the garages or on the pit wall. Thanks to Sir Lewis Hamilton for his dedication and persistence in campaigning for better equality and representation in the industry, and setting up Mission 44 to provide the opportunities for under-represented communities to pursue an engineering career in motorsport. This initiative, with the Royal Academy of Engineering, provides a scholarship that will pay for all tuition fees and maintenance costs, dedicated motorsport training and networking events and access to the Graduate Engineering Engagement Programme - which could be the critical lifeline that aspiring young talent from black and mixed black ethnic communities need to overcome the barriers to entry for this industry. And as we look forward to more sustainable approaches to the sport, we need diverse talent to bring the innovation and passion that's needed to make lasting changes for the better. There's only just over a week to go before the deadline, so if you know someone who wants to translate their passion for motorsport into a career, encourage them to apply. #motorsportforall #mission44 #lh44 #equalityinmotorsport #equalityinengineering #inclusiveeducation
One week left to apply - applications close 13 March. The #MScMotorsport Scholarship Programme was created with the support of Mission 44 to provide funding and support to students from Black and mixed Black backgrounds to pursue a master's degree in motorsport. Do you know someone who could benefit? Share this opportunity with them. For more information and to start an application, visit: https://lnkd.in/eGygmzur

You’re Running in Races Without Knowing Your Opponents or the Significance of the Race… Let’s take a moment to reflect on the men’s 100-meter final from a few days ago. The difference between first and last place was a mere 0.12 seconds. Every single one of those times was an Olympic record at some point. Pause and consider just how extraordinary their performances were. If we didn’t have the advanced technology we do today, I believe the Olympic committee would have been faced with a tough choice: either award multiple medals or have the athletes run the race again. The difference between 1st and 2nd place was razor-thin—so close that we need enhancements just to see it! In my eyes, every one of those participants is a champion, and none of them should feel disappointed in their performance. Now, imagine this scenario applies to an application to a prestigious university, a job, a grant, or a pitch competition. Most of the time, we don’t have the luxury of knowing what kind of ‘race’ we’re in. We take rejections and losses very personally. But if only you could see how close the race was, you’d realize just how impressive your performance truly was. You could walk away saying, “I let my legs do the talking,” knowing that there will always be another chance. Don't count yourself out just yet. Keep going!
