As the largest single day of action against food waste, this is a great day to learn new tips for curb food waste through practical, creative and impactful decisions. Through upcycling, we're able to bake the most of our resources and create delicious and nutrient dense super ingredients. Further, incredible organizations like ReFED are helping us see the volume and value of the >$40B in wasted food at the manufacturing level. Although often hidden, manufacturing generated food waste is becoming better understood as a piece within the larger 33% of all food globally that is currently going to waste. We’re proud to announce that we’re supporting Love Food Hate Waste’s - Food Waste Action Week campaign. This year, the UK’s biggest annual food waste reduction campaign is encouraging you to, “Choose What You’ll Use” by buying your fruit and vegetables loose instead of packaged. Research from Love Food Hate Waste has shown that we could reduce food waste by 60,000 tonnes just by buying loose fruit and veg! Sometimes we are in the mood for a huge potato, and sometimes we just need one carrot for our spag bol. Why let the rest go to waste? Choose loose and you don’t have to. 🌍 On World Food Day, it's time to shine a spotlight on how businesses can make a real impact by tackling food waste. 🍽️ By conducting a comprehensive Food Waste Audit, Great Forest helped this restaurant chain understand how much of the material they were treating as food waste actually consisted of high quality surplus food. 🎯 The result? The restaurant learned it could put thousands of pounds of food back on the table each day to help communities in need. This would mean less food waste, lower waste costs, and a way to do good at the same time! 🔑 Key takeaway: With the right strategies, you can transform food waste reduction into meaningful action. The amount of food wasted in the United States is pretty shocking; by some reports it is as much as 40 percent. This is despite that fact that there are many simple ways to reduce food waste. This week's Local Food Forum entry from University of Illinois Extension and UI Health presents several tips to help you waste less food. I'd love it if this can be a conversation starter — please submit your own thoughts and actions (repurposing food scraps? composting? something else?) on reducing food waste.

Can the words we use assist in changing our mindset? How do you feel when we use words like "rotting" "waste" "problem" ? They are all negative words that conjure unsightly imagery. Consider changing the words we use and adjust the conversation from a negative, to one we can get behind to make a positive difference. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing positive about food waste, but if part of the required change is changing our words, then let's start there. #FoodWaste #Sustainability #SurplusFood #EnvironmentalImpact #DigiTally #FoodServiceIndustry #EthicalResponsibility #CostSavings
What comes to mind when you hear the term ‘food waste’? For many, it probably conjures up images of rotting rubbish – something we want to avoid. But what if we reframed how we view this issue? In our latest blog post, we explore: - Shifting Our Mindset: Rebranding surplus food as ‘repurposed meals’ can alter our perspectives and encourage us to view food waste as a valuable resource. - Understanding the Impact: Addressing food waste is crucial from ethical, environmental, and financial standpoints. - Educating Ourselves: Starting education in schools and training food service staff on preserving and repurposing soon-to-expire items. - Measuring What Matters: Implementing accurate measurement tools to manage and reduce food waste effectively. By fundamentally reframing our perceptions and practices, the food service industry can lead the way in minimising leftover food and its destructive impact. It starts by avoiding the negativity associated with ‘waste’ and giving surplus food the value and attention it deserves. Ready to take charge of food waste in your business? Let’s Talk Read the full blog post and join the conversation on how we can rethink food waste together! https://lnkd.in/eFBm7ScV #FoodWaste #Sustainability #SurplusFood #EnvironmentalImpact #DigiTally #FoodServiceIndustry #EthicalResponsibility #CostSavings
