Today is #EarthDay, and we find ourselves in the midst of an active climate crisis. There is an ever-increasing need for innovative solutions to provide our planet with clean, sustainable energy. The global #EnergyTransition is underway, but there are still challenges that need addressing. Implementing renewable technologies at scale is costly, which remains a significant barrier to their widespread adoption. Moreover, public opinion is important in implementing effective change, which is why we need government-led education on the need for renewable power. This would help gain support for the large-scale infrastructure changes necessary for a successful energy transition. A key step towards a greener future involves recognising the need for a diverse mix of energy technologies tailored to different applications. For instance, the transition in heavy industry will differ from changes in national transport, and neither will necessarily mirror the adaptions in domestic power. A holistic approach that blends a range of innovative, specialised renewable energy technologies is essential to transitioning towards a secure, decarbonised future. Wind and solar power are promising renewable sources, but they are inherently intermittent as they depend on changing weather conditions. Hydrogen also offers potential as an alternative fuel due to its zero emissions, making it a clean addition to the future energy mix. However, despite its promise, current hydrogen storage capacity is too small and costly. The problem is our infrastructure, which as it is, cannot support a fully renewable-powered grid. The solution is long-duration energy storage, for which there is a growing need. Underground storage can facilitate a cost-effective #HydrogenEconomy and support an entirely renewable-powered grid. The ability to store renewable energy on a large scale and ensure its dispatchability at any time or season is the missing piece in the renewable energy puzzle. Characterization of Citizens for Clean Energy (C3E)Transition: Ushering in the New Era of World Let the Citizens of the world come together to radically change the way we produces and uses energy, as part of efforts to hold back climate change and to ultimately give humanity a more secure future on the planet earth. Unprecedented changes in the weather pattern due to human induced climate change have become a primary focus for policy makers and business leaders. ‘Clean Energy’ is energy gained from sources that do not release air pollutants, while ‘Green Energy’ is energy derived from natural sources. There is a subtle difference between these two energy types even though they are often spoken of as being the same. ‘Renewable Energy’ is power generated from sources that are constantly being replenished. These renewable energy resources won’t run out, unlike fossil fuels & gas, and include wind and solar energy. Citizens role on how to transition the world’s current combustion-based energy to 100 percent clean, renewable wind, water, and solar (WWS) electricity and heat for all energy purposes; how to store electricity, heat, cold, and hydrogen; how to keep the electric power grid stable; and how to address non-energy sources of emissions is needed through a strategic ushering and enabling approach. India’s announcement that it aims to reach net zero emissions by 2070 and to meet fifty percent of its electricity requirements from renewable energy sources by 2030 is a significant moment for the global fight against climate change. Policy perspective on citizen participation in energy transitions have included calls for “Energy Democracy-ED” and active forms of “Energy Citizenship-EC”. Both ED & EC are keywords in future strategy. In the case of ED, as focused on structural changes such as formal participation in energy-related decision-making and the democratisation of energy infrastructure. On the other hand, EC - have been more focused on the role of the public and individuals abilities and willingness to participate, especially regarding more individualised forms of prosumerism and access to smart & small-scale renewable sources. In moving forward, renewable energy policy approaches will have to be more holistic and sophisticated to reflect the transformative changes induced by the energy transition on the energy sector, society, and economy. EC is often considered in terms of individual practices and emphasise on behaviour change focusing on individuals as agents of change with direct stake to cleaner energy, while ED, with its focus on participatory processes, has dealt more with procedural aspects of participation and issues of inclusion and outcomes. Policy measures need to pave the way for the sector by setting ambitious clean energy targets, developing investor-friendly regulations, and bringing in international financial institutions to mitigate risk. #Energy Democracy #Energy Citizenship #Empowerment #Prosumerism #G20 Summit
