[Free Cargo Bikes for all! 🚲 ] Dear network, together with some lovely local peeps, I'm currently running a crowdfunding campaign in my hometown Esslingen to establish free, rentable cargo bikes - and I need your support! I personally very much believe in the power of experimenting with sustainable practices. It's simply important to try out new stuff before going all in. This is confirmed in sustainability transition research - there we talk about "niches", which are protected spaces in which path-breaking sustainability innnovations can develop in order to break unsustainable regimes. Hence, providing free services like these are key to turn petrol-heads into bike-lovers on the long run. And cargo bikes are not only increadibly useful, they are also super fun!! Not only does it match plastic performance, but it comes from a renewable source that sequesters carbon 🌱 With R&D backing from iconic brands like L'Oréal and Waitrose & Partners, Kelpi's commercial potential is clear. This investment will allow meaningful scaling up and market rollout through manufacturing and partnership pilots. Estonian startup gets funding for wood-based alternative to bubble wrap RAIKU Packaging is an Estonian startup that has developed an innovative protective packaging product alternative to PE (polyethylene) bubblewrap. The company’s product is made from sustainable wooden ‘springs’. They have now announced that they have received funding of €8.8M (£7.7m), made up of a €5.65 million grant from the European Innovation Council (EIC) and €3.15 million in investments from private sector investors, including Kaamos, Vestman, Little Green Fund, as well as numerous private investors from Estonia and Finland. The company’s primary objective with this new funding is to advance its chemical-free and compostable packaging material technology, establish its first factory, and expand production on a global scale. Berlin-based Vyld secures seven-figure seed to launch the world’s first tampon made from #seaweed. Vyld, a startup developing radically sustainable, marine biodegradable and healthy period products from seaweed, closed its seed round with a seven-figure sum. In addition to funding from the German government and the EU, the founders are relying on their self-developed sustainable financing instrument, the Future Profit Partnership Agreement (FPPA). The current financing round enables this year’s market launch of the Kelpon, the world’s first tampon made from seaweed, as well as the development of the Algaeverse portfolio for B2B and B2C.
