KNX is an automation protocol mostly used in Europe right now, but it does exist in the US. Similar to BACNet and Lon (formerly LonWorks), it is used for Building Automation of commercial buildings or residential homes. It can control lighting, HVAC, blinds and shades, security systems, etc... in your home. It is exciting to see that KNX can be integrated with Control4 technology (home automation systems that integrate different systems like A/V, security systems, cameras, etc...)
Join us on the KNX Association booth at Light Building, where we will be showcasing how Control4 seamlessly integrates with KNX technologies! Register now: https://bit.ly/3r8phen #control4 #knx #smarthomepros

Installation of new LED lighting has started in our Vuorela factory!💡 Like we have shared in our blog series, we have initiated a multi-year project with the goal of completely reforming our factory’s energy consumption, and one major step on our roadmap is replacing our current lighting with LEDs in our production and outdoor areas. The change from our outdated lights to LEDs brings many significant improvements to our facility and our overall sustainability goals, such as: ✨ Flexibility and customizability: LEDs allow for adjustable lighting, enhancing occupational safety by optimizing visibility, reducing discomfort, and catering to diverse work environments. ✨ Energy efficiency and control: Smart lighting enables dimming and control based on movement, enhancing energy efficiency and allowing tailored lighting as needed. ✨ Environmental benefits and durability: LEDs are environmentally friendly, with no hazardous materials like mercury, and have a smaller carbon footprint. Their extended lifespan and resistance to factors like vibration make them durable, reducing maintenance costs in factory conditions. Our selected partner for LED installation is Savoltti (https://savoltti.fi/) ⚡ Read more from our blog! ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/dMVs5ijw

At first glance, these two Chinese scientists are just holding a plain white board. But this is their latest innovation for energy-efficient buildings—a cooling glass that can reflect 99% of solar radiation while emitting heat into outer space. This microporous glass coating slashes energy consumption by up to 10% in buildings. It keeps interiors cooler, reduces the need for air conditioning, and withstands water, UV, and flames. Click to read more about this cooling glass.

Energizing insights of our transition-atelier 💡 In the second week of the new year, IABR teamed up with the Jeux des Joules design teams of Studio Chris Kabel, OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen for an inspiring field trip to Amsterdam and Rotterdam, accompanied by both municipalities. This included an exploration of the city and a unique insight into different types of transformer stations. A particular highlight was the tour of Alliander in Westpoort, the open-air training ground for electricians in training. During this exploration of energy infrastructure, the crucial goal of the grid operators became clear: to provide energy at the lowest price. Due to the increasing need for energy and power, there is a necessity to expand the power grid, involving the construction of additional transformer boxes and heat transfer stations. The visit to Batenburg's assembly hall, guided by Stedin and Batenburg, offered thorough insights into the safety regulations and design characteristics of both accessible and compact substations. The conversation about accessible substations underscored the importance of designated safety zones and the difficulty of constructing compact stations without compromising safety. The excursion concluded by offering insights into upcoming challenges in the energy sector, such as the increase in our energy consumption, its impact on the job market, and the need for intelligent energy systems. Balancing efficiency, safety, cost, speed, and spatial quality is a complex task. The valuable insights acquired during this field trip will form the basis for the design teams collaborating on the Jeux des Joules transition-atelier in the months to come. The two towers, each standing 200 meters tall, boast mirrors that form two vast, overlapping circles, focusing sunlight onto each tower. Located in Gansu Province, the plant features two 200-meter towers, each surrounded by nearly 30,000 mirrors forming overlapping circles to concentrate sunlight on the towers. The dual-tower configuration is a groundbreaking innovation, distinguishing this plant from traditional solar thermal facilities. According to recent reports, this design can boost efficiency by 24%. Xavier Lara, I want your thoughts on this technology and its dual-tower approach. #energytransition #CSP https://lnkd.in/gpyvsRrC

Steen & Strøm owns three shopping centers in Denmark, including Field's in Copenhagen, and is a partner in #Energispringet (Energy Leap), which is a partnership between real estate companies and organizations in #Copenhagen that work together to reduce energy consumption in each partner's properties. Energy saving has been in focus at Steen & Strøm since 2018. Thomas Petersson, Technical CSR Manager Scandinavia, explains in an article about ‘Energy Boost’ at Steen & Strøm. Energy Boost is an annual recurring activity after closing time that begins with a review of all technical installations that are connected to the CTS system - heating, ventilation, lighting, and cooling systems - and the night after, all premises are physically reviewed to check if the registrations in the system matches reality.
