💪 At the recent meeting in Stuttgart, the MECOG-CE team made an important step forward by forming study clusters. What will they focus on? Project partners are now divided into 5️⃣ study clusters according to their choice of the most desirable best practice based on regional stakeholders’ meetings in each metropolitan area. The project team also engaged in discussions about potential pilot actions to enhance metropolitan cooperation. The final study clusters will be focused on these tools: ✅ Food districts, lighthouse partner (supervisor): Città metropolitana di Torino ✅ Prototyping academies, lighthouse partner: GZM. Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolia ✅ Mobility and planning/Transport associations, lighthouse partner: Verband Region Stuttgart ✅ Warsaw Metropolitan Association (developing opinions and workshops/trainings), lighthouse partner: #MetropoliaWarszawska ✅ Semi structures and dialogues for improvement of cooperation – Municipal Neighbourhood Forum, lighthouse partner: Joint Spatial Planning Department #BerlinBrandenburg and Questionnaire among mayors, lighthouse partner: City of #Brno). 💙 The commitment and expertise demonstrated by all partners signal a promising future for metropolitan areas in Central Europe . Stay tuned for updates! #interreg #interregcentraleurope #clusters #sharingknowledge

What a week filled with interesting events and people! ✨ Last week I had the pleasure to participate in the 'Futures Seminar for Design for Government', organized by Anni Leppänen and the Julkismuotoilijat community at the Helsingin kaupunki – Helsingfors stad – City of Helsinki. Thank you for having me as one of the invited panellists — together with Kaisa Spilling (Forum Virium Helsinki), Elina Norros (PMO), and Ida Rainio (Futurice) — as a representative from an academic perspective (Aalto University/University of Helsinki). During the panel, we discussed the breadth of ecosystems, how to work within them, challenge them, and how our diverse perspectives could work across siloes. A huge topic for sure, and one that still needs a lot more perspectives to be included, and current ways of doing challenged to accommodate for these changing times. Looking forward to more of these events! ✨ And thank you to those who participated and took some time to stay longer and have a chat! #designforgovernment #helsinki #panel #business #academia #publicsector

Unlocking the Potential: Metropolitan Cooperation for Sustainable Development 🚀 Metropolitan areas in Central Europe are dealing with diverse thematic and procedural challenges. The #mecogce project aims at developing and sharing solutions that help to develop sustainable and resilient metropolitan areas committed to societal leadership and social responsibilities. These efforts can build up on the identified opportunities that include: ✔ favourable setup of EU instruments and policies, like the ITI (Integrated Territorial Investments), the New Leipzig Charter, Territorial Agenda 2030; ✔ more cohesive narrative of metropolitan dimension in official EU and international policy documents; ✔ development and practice of metropolitan cooperation itself demonstrating benefits to their member municipalities and stakeholders; ✔ participation in metropolitan networks and knowledge-sharing projects; ✔ promotion of good practices and success stories to increase the recognition of the benefits of metropolitan cooperation. These opportunities were analysed within the study titled 'Identification of Challenges Specific to Central European Metropolitan Areas (MAs)', conducted by Charles University as part of the project MECOG-CE. The study examines the presence of the metropolitan dimension in EU and international documents and captures the perspectives of stakeholders from Central European MAs regarding contemporary challenges and opportunities related to metropolitan development, governance, planning, and cooperation. The findings, derived from surveys and focus groups with project partners, are poised to guide Central European MAs in their transformation into vibrant centres of urban development, governance, and collaboration. ❓ What are your ideas and experience? #PartnersCorner 🤝 Let’s continue exploring the #EnCLOD project’s dynamic consortium! Today, we’re thrilled to introduce another incredible partner: the University of Ljubljana 🏛️ We had the opportunity to catch up with them and ask, “What are your expectations for the EnCLOD project?” Here’s what they shared: “We believe this project will greatly strengthen the role of higher education institutions in driving sustainable urban development, particularly in responding to climate change and boosting citizen engagement. We aim to advance the integration of data-driven decision-making into urban planning practices. We also expect EnCLOD to catalyse the development of new methodologies in urban data collection and analysis, setting new standards for smart city initiatives across Europe.” Wondering what motivated the University of Ljubljana to join the EnCLOD consortium? 🤔 Check out the visual below to learn more! 👇 EnCLOD - Enhancing Governance Capacities of Local Authorities through Open Data, is funded by the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme. 🌍 #EnCLODProject #OpenDataGov #MadeWithInterreg #interreg #CentralEurope #cooperationiscentral Università Iuav di Venezia - DKV Debrecen Public Transport Company Ltd. - Palacký University in Olomouc - Mestna občina Nova Gorica - University of Ljubljana - University of Zilina - alda* - European Association for Local Democracy

We just spent a week in Pontevedra attending the 10th Degrowth Conference organized by the Conferencia Internacional ESEE-Decrecemento 2024 Pontevedra. 🏓 From theory to practice: The recent conference not only had us discussing the fascinating world of Kate Raworth's Doughnut Economics in relation to our own design practice, but gave us insights into a multitude of approaches around #degrowth and #postgrowth from different disciplines outside of our own. 🏥 Health and Degrowth: one of our big topic at KITE is the co-development of health systems and products together with innovation companies, doctors, nurses, patients and other stakeholder. We were happy to see the topic of "Caring for health within planetary boundaries" was being discussed in a panel with Arianna Rotulo, Hans Eickhoff, Judith Bueno De Mesquita and Shivani Kaul. 🎯 We had a lively discussion with participants when presenting a paper on a perspective on degrowth in design research, and did an experimental #audiowalk on the topic of "sustainability by default" we had a lot of fun conducting with some of the participants of the conference. Making people successful in Horizon Europe | Curious networker | Strategic EU lobbying | ex-CBS lecturer
Drawing parallels from the strikingly different landscapes of Denmark and Norway, I find a compelling metaphor in our respective innovation systems. 🌍🌄 Last week*, there has been a chorus of concern from several members of Danish Technological Institute's Board of Trustees. They have highlighted an unaspiring approach in Denmark - the practice of reducing the national public research budget each time Danish organisations secure research funding from the EU. 😥 In stark contrast, the Norwegian government adds a 30% markup to EU funding. This strategic investment recognises two important factors: (1) EU funding doesn’t fully cover the costs, and (2) additional support for successful projects and talented researchers bolsters impact and innovation. 💡 Our board member, Anders Overgaard Bjarklev, who is also part of the #HorizonEurope High-Level Group, shares his perspective on this issue, responding to our Chairman's piece on adopting a more ambitious EU policy: https://lnkd.in/dkumEcAU I want to extend a warm thank you to everyone contributing to this critical debate. Let's continue to advocate for impactful innovation! 👏 Ulla Tørnæs, Anders Overgaard Bjarklev, Ragnar Heldt Nielsen, Mikael Bay Hansen/ Dansk Metal, and others. *...while I was skiing in Norway 🎿 #ItsAllAboutInnovation #DKForsk #DKInno #EUDK
