High pharmaceutical expenditures pose significant challenges for #HealthSystems, adversely affecting #Access2Medicines and other products and services. A widely recognized method for addressing the problem is to utilize framework agreements (FAs), which are contracts between one or more buyers and single or multiple suppliers. FAs can improve procurement contracts by providing a pre-established structure for repetitive purchasing, promoting efficiency, and ensuring consistent terms and conditions. 🚨 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐝? Germany's new Medicines Research Act introduces confidential rebates for pharmaceutical companies, aiming to enhance market attractiveness. However, recent amendments impose significant restrictions, including a mandatory 9% discount and limited eligibility to those conducting research in Germany. Doctors will have access to rebate information to ensure cost-effective prescriptions. The provision is set until 30 June 2028, with an impact evaluation by the Ministry of Health due by the end of 2026. Key figures for the year 2022 below: 🏅France constitutes the 5th pharmaceutical market 🎢 1.2% of GDP dedicated to pharmaceutical spendings 💲 The reimbursed drug market is valued at 25.3€ billion (net value) ⏳ Average time to market from market authorization to publication of price in the Official Journal is 508 days (vs 511 for the European Union) In a second post i will be presenting the key results and figures for the French market. The USAID MTaPS Program worked with the Ministry of Health and key stakeholders to foster more efficient pharmaceutical procurement in #Jordan by implementing framework agreements (FAs) with pharmaceutical suppliers. FAs are “umbrella” contracts between one or more buyers and single or multiple suppliers that can improve procurement contracts, promote efficiency, and ensure consistent terms and conditions. High costs and administrative burdens can strain healthcare systems, hindering access to vital services. This strain on limited health care resources could result in decreased accessibility to crucial health care services and products for the population. By empowering procurement stakeholders to successfully implement FAs, we helped to enhance pharmaceutical procurement, including vaccines, for better health in Jordan.
