🌞''Central Africa holds some of Africa’s leading frontier markets for hydrocarbon exploration, featuring underexplored acreage, coupled with substantial proven oil and gas reserves. Along with emerging renewable developments and significant needs for enhanced power generation and distribution, the region features investment opportunities across its energy value chain.
The upcoming Invest in African Energy (IAE) event in Paris 🇨🇵 in May 2024 will highlight the full spectrum of energy investment opportunities in the region, providing a platform for investors, developers and service providers to engage with the region’s most transformative projects.'' (1)
In addition to its potential for solar energy and green hydroelectric production, Africa could emerge as the new global frontier for hydrocarbon exploration. Indeed, developments in Ukraine and Russia increase the demand for non-Russian fossil fuels. In 2021 alone, oil and gas have been discovered in Angola, Namibia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Egypt, South Africa and Zimbabwe. (2)
''Resuming and scaling up solar projects in North Africa could fully replace Russian gas as a source of European energy[...]It could also stimulate and diversify North Africa’s stagnant economies and make large projects such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s (DRC) Grand Inga hydroelectric scheme commercially viable.'' “EuropeWave’s payment to support Carnegie’s CETO deployment progress”
August 30, 2024, - Zerina Maksumic
“Carnegie Clean Energy, through its wholly owned subsidiary CETO Wave Energy Ireland (CWEI), has received a progress payment of €251,100 under the EuropeWave Phase 3 contract.”
“In September 2023, EuropeWave selected three finalists to fabricate, deploy, and demonstrate prototype designs in the third and final phase of the #waveenergy project.”
“EuropeWave integrates a Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) program with the International Energy Agency’s ‘stage-gate’ process to optimize value for public procurement and accelerate #waveenergytechnology development. The project, developed in partnership with Wave Energy Scotland (WES) and Ente Vasco de la Energia (EVE), combines nearly €20 million in funding to advance the #waveenergysector .”
“CETO is a fully submerged , #pointabsorbertype wave energy technology device. A #submergedbuoy sits a few meters below the surface and moves with the ocean’s waves. This orbital motion drives a #powertakeoff (#PTO) system that converts this #motion into #electricity .”

Horizon 2020 supported the development of a smart European electricity grid, funding projects that focus on automation, energy storage integration and the adoption of renewable energy sources to aid the transition to a more sustainable energy system.
This is a priority area for Europe and investment in energy storage technologies and integration brings benefits both to the EU, and to our global society.
FBE will continue to promote the benefits of #flowbatteries as a key long duration energy storage technology and press for continued investment in the sector under the European Framework Programme Research and Innovation (FP10).
📢For this reason, FBE joined 109 European Associations in co-signing a joint statement calling on the EU Institutions to significantly increase the current RD&I budget in view of next FP10.

Key Milestone Achieved for European Hydrogen Network Development
Brussels– In a significant move towards shaping Europe’s energy future, 37 infrastructure companies from across the European Union gathered in Brussels to finalize the agreements for the establishment of the European Network of Network Operators for Hydrogen (ENNOH). This critical step, facilitated by a landmark meeting with EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson, marks the culmination of six months of dedicated collaboration among prospective Hydrogen Transmission Network Operators (HTNOs).
California’s marine energy sector is set to soar with a new collaboration between CalWave Inc. and AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles. This partnership, cemented by a memorandum of understanding (MoU), aims to establish a local wave energy industry and deploy projects along California's coastline.
CalWave, known for its pioneering wave energy technologies, and AltaSea, a hub for renewable energy and blue technology, are poised to advance Governor Gavin Newsom's vision for sustainable energy.
Supported by recent legislation mandating the exploration of wave and tidal energy feasibility, this initiative seeks to integrate marine technologies into California's energy grid efficiently.
With targets to achieve significant offshore wind capacity and marine energy deployment by 2045, California is paving the way for global leadership in renewable energy innovation. We are proud to support this transformative journey towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Exciting news from Germany! 🇩🇪
The Wilhelmshaven Green Energy Hub's (e)LNG terminal has been granted a 20-year regulatory exemption by BNetzA, marking a significant leap towards energy security and sustainability in Germany and Europe. With a capacity of 15 billion cubic metres per year, this zero-emission terminal is set to play a pivotal role in the region's energy supply, awaiting final approval from the European Commission.
This strategic move, celebrated by Deutsche Grüngas- und Energieversorgung GmbH's (DGGEV) CEO Raf Vermeyen, paves the way for final investment decisions and underscores Germany's commitment to decarbonization. Located in Wilhelmshaven, the terminal benefits from optimal access and is a key component of TES's plan to introduce green hydrogen-based electric natural gas (e-NG), aligning with the German LNG acceleration act for a transition by 2044.
A brighter, greener energy future is on the horizon! 🌍💡

WAVE HELLO: The European Union has given the go-ahead for the next phase of a wave energy project.
The €19.6 million (£16.5 million) WEDUSEA project is a collaboration between 14 partners in industry and academia across the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Spain.
It is being coordinated by Irish company OceanEnergy with funding from the EU Horizon Europe Programme and Innovate UK.
Technical designs and plans, budgets and protocols were approved following an independent review by EU appointed specialists.
Now the plan is to demonstrate a grid-connected 1-MW OE35 floating wave energy converter at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) wave energy test site at Billia Croo in Orkney, northern Scotland.
This will take place over a two-year period in Atlantic wave conditions from June 2025, according to Offshore magazine, followed by commercialization in the final phase.
