#throwbackthursday to London Toy Fair 2020! I've now totally lost count of the number of Toy Fair events I've been to, either in London or overseas. Each one has been completely different from the others, with new products, new publicity stunts, and new faces (and plenty of familiar faces too!) at every event. We old-timers know the drill.... stay hydrated, wear comfy shoes, prepare in advance, and stock up on energy bars! I'd love to hear advice from other seasoned #ToyFair professionals - what's the best advice you can offer for newbies at the show?

NO PLAN B Karim and I found ourselves picking snacks for our next event—a routine task, until we reached the beverage section. There, amidst the colorful cans, a silent wish echoed between us: "Please let the Red Bull be on discount." It wasn't just about saving a few bucks; it was about fueling our event with energy. 💡 That moment sparked an audacious idea. Why settle for buying when we could aim higher? We decided then and there: no more buying refreshments. Our new mission is To secure Red Bull as our official beverage partner. Hotel clients often want a restaurant that shifts with the day – from morning to night. They avoid calling it an All Day Diner. They prefer 'Signature' with breakfast. A guest may skip dinner where they ate breakfast. Likewise, a visitor won't dine in a space made for morning buffets. So, how does a restaurant space get that flexibility necessary to be attractive for multiple meal periods? The urban planning team at MIT Media Lab is involved in a project called Ori Systems that uses clever design and robotics to create transformable inserts for studio apartments. As a prototype, they designed a 200 Sq ft space that had the functionality of an 800 sq ft apartment.  Architectural robotics they call it. They’ve also partnered with Marriott Hotels to provide flexible, room configurations -  imagine a bed that lifts into the ceiling to reveal a table for dinner or desk for work – all at the touch of a button, via a voice command or via a tap on one’s phone. A single space that can change functionality quickly and efficiently. That’s pretty clever and although restaurants are different to rooms, the application of this technology and thinking has real potential for F&B. Adopting this smart tech could transform our all-day dining venues, enabling seamless transitions from morning meals to signature evening dining.
