Please SHARE. I'm hoping that my LinkedIn connections will do me the favor of sharing my post with ANYONE who might have some pro printing knowledge. I want to either buy my own book binding and printing equipment (I know it's expensive, that's okay) or I need a pro printer that I can build a relationship with to regularly print hardcover 5x8" books with NO MINIMUM order requirements. ( I literally order these 3-20 at a time, and the book is different in each order.) To be very clear. I am not an author trying to sell my book. I am a business who sells BESPOKE keepsake books. I know that big publishers like B&N print books on demand and they are priced reasonably, but their process moves snail's pace SLOW. My most recent order has been in "Printing" status for 3 weeks. Who knows when it will ship. I need a faster turnaround than that! My customers are waiting for their orders! Who can partner with me, or guide me through buying and learning to use the expensive binding and printing equipment?

An invoice for a recent order for screen printing from a long-time vendor shocked my business partner. It was 500% higher than a similar order for similar work done about a year ago. My partner was ready to pay the amount while ranting about changing vendors. I urged him to dig deeper. Was there notice of this price change? Did you get a chance to approve it? Was the work any different? We settled on the possibility that the vendor simply erred. Still, we gathered evidence of prior pricing, and I drafted a letter of challenge to the surprise price increase. First, we sent a gentle query suggesting a mistake. No response. Then I sent the letter with some evidence of prior pricing and a renewed suggestion that there must be some mistake. I called the shop a half-hour later. The vendor admitted their error: the new salesperson billed us at the price for a different type of work. They quickly amended the pricing and brought it down to where we expected it. A painful, unexpected expense became a minor invoice error that we easily addressed while leaving an opportunity for an amicable solution. It doesn't always go so smoothly, but the emailed receipts followed by a respectful phone call led to an excellent result. It was a good day.
