And…that's a wrap! 🎉
Over my 12-week summer internship at Roche, I juggled 6 different projects, getting the chance to work with 9 teams across the company to enact meaningful impact.
Some key takeaways:
- Communication is everything. Learning to convey with clarity in spoken, written, and visual forms allowed me to identify problems early, document project progress, and shorten feedback cycles when working with stakeholders across the org.
- Embrace ambiguity through structure. When navigating complex projects, I had to invert my decision-making. There is no "right" or "wrong" choice, so instead of falling into the rabbit hole of attempting to eliminate uncertainty, defining a successful outcome and working backward allowed me to plot a course of action.
- A great work environment allows you to thrive. At Roche, company culture is more than lip service; it was something demonstrated in every hallway interaction, meeting, and 1:1 conversation. All successes were celebrated as collective victories, mistakes were opportunities for growth, and ideas were valued. Collaborating with and on teams built on a foundation of trust, authenticity, camaraderie, and respect made me excited to show up and show out every single day.
A huge thank you to: my manager Aishariya B. Alvarez, MBA, who trusted me with ownership over substantial projects, while scaffolding the skills I would need to make an impact and cheering me on every step of the way; my mentor Courtney Sullivan, whose unwavering support and wisdom enabled me to tackle challenges head-on; and each and every person I had the honor of working alongside for their time and effort in our collective projects.
