I had the honor of speaking at Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County about our impactful Aging in Place (AIP) program! Here are some key takeaways: As we age, the roles can sometimes reverse, and we find ourselves caring for the ones who cared for us. This can be a stressful time for everyone involved. Habitat for Humanity's Aging in Place (AIP) program offers a solution. By making modifications to seniors' homes, AIP empowers them to stay independent and comfortable. This reduces stress on families who can have peace of mind knowing their loved ones are safe in familiar surroundings. Many homes, particularly those built before 1970, lack features that promote safe aging. AIP bridges this gap by offering affordable modifications like grab bars and walk-in showers. These seemingly small changes can make a significant difference, allowing seniors to maintain their confidence and independence for longer. The need for such programs is undeniable, especialy in our rural communites. The senior population is rapidly growing, with a significant portion desiring to age in their own homes. AIP helps fulfill this wish for many. The program's success stories are testaments to its impact. With over 86 Douglas County homeowners already served, AIP is committed to creating a future where everyone can age safely and comfortably at home. Consider supporting this vital program and help our valued seniors live their golden years with dignity! #HabitatForHumanity #AgingInPlace #DouglasCounty #Community #SupportSeniors

At a time when housing costs outpace incomes and while our state experiences a well-documented shortage of affordable homes, it’s more important than ever to support policies and systems that expand new home production and sustain access to critical matched-savings programs that help create pathways toward homeownership.
