Last week, Klaus Ullrich, Strategic Business Development Executive at Ceres, attended the World Hydrogen & Renewables Iberia event in Madrid (12 - 14 September 2023)   With an impressive roster of 90 speakers and a gathering of over 250 attendees, this event served as a focal point for the critical discussions surrounding the #hydrogen and #renewables sector in the #energy industry.   The Iberian region is fast becoming a European clean energy powerhouse. Over the last year I have spent quite a bit of time interviewing and working with companies in the energy transition space across Canada, the U.S., the Middle East and Europe. In that time I've really had a front row seat to #DigitalTransformation at scale. 3 takeaways around #EnergyTransition: 1️⃣ There is a laser focus on collaboration among VERY smart people, and today there is huge effort around unsiloing roles and making sure engineers who haven't historically had a chance to work together are connected by data and have a shared, single source of truth. The outcomes of this will be big. 2️⃣ Every industry is moving to the cloud, but in energy the scale is unlike any other industry. AI will be a game-changer for bigdata in energy, along with some of the basics like ensuring you have structured data (or tools that can structure the unstructured data). The outcomes of using data will aid in decarbonization faster than anything we've seen before. 3️⃣ Balancing energy and the environment is tough, and it often ends up in trade-off conversations. We live in a world that is growing and changing at the same time, but industry and academia are committed to innovation and technologies that can scale. There's a lot of work to do on a path to net zero, and we aren't close yet, but there are a lot of people working on this problem. The balancing act of energy security and environmental protection is breeding entirely new technologies and innovation will win. These things, and others, will be front and center when our team deploys at the Lisbon Energy Summit later this month.
