#Parents STEM Fair season is coming soon. Supporting your kids as they conduct their experiments and prepare their project boards doesn't have to be stressful. Here are some tips:
1. Start early, much of the stress is caused by feeling rushed.
2. Let your child select a project based on a topic that they are interested in.
3. Conduct background research on the topic. Your child should be knowledgeable about their topic.
4. Design and prepare for the experiment. Your child can create their own experiment or adapt an activity they find online.
5. Conduct the experiment - make sure your child conducts their experiment at least 3 times, write down experimental results and observations.
6. Don't forget about data analysis - create data tables, graphs, and charts, and write down your conclusions
7. Data Presentation - Write a paper to detail your process that includes background research, hypothesis, experimental procedure and materials, and experimental results.
8. Prepare for the STEM fair - design your project board and tripod and practice your oral presentation.
If you are the parent of a high school student, I have more strategies for STEM fair prep in my book Experimental Design Process. You can purchase via the link below
