👉 Can You Define Positioning In One Sentence?
Couple weeks ago, I was trying to embrace Nashville’s cowboy vibes, and we were talking about #positioning with a few folks at Pavilion #GTM23’s pre-event party.
We all took a shot of tequila; and then another shot at our definition of positioning.
Of course, 5 people meant 5 different definitions (which is cool).
Here’s my attempt at repeating what I heard, and describing the style of each person - with maybe a slight exaggeration. Maybe.

🤠 The skeptic cowboy:
❝ Positioning is BS. Doesn’t matter how you define it, your buyer won't remember your words. It’s all about how you show up on sales calls, how you qualify and demo your product. ❞
🤠 The frameworky cowgirl:
❝ Well, I was listening to a podcast the other day, where Andy Raskin's framework was discussed, and I think there’s a step that’s missing when it comes to defining your core buyer, because… [ takes another shot 🥃 ] ❞
🤠 CowGPT:
❝ Positioning is the strategic process of defining how your company or its products/services are perceived relative to competitors, involving a unique value proposition, consistent messaging, and brand identity to resonate with the target audience and maintain a positive market perception. ❞
🤠 The poetic cowgirl:
❝ Positioning is about taking your stand,
In the circus of brands, it's your special hand.
Like a jester in jest or a wizard's grand show,
It's where you choose to shine, and where you'll glow. ❞
🤠 The death-by-analogy cowboy:
❝ Like a master chef crafting an exquisite meal, positioning means carefully combining elements to create a delectable experience for your audience. Think of it like the orchestration of a symphony, where… [ takes another 🥃 ] ❞
🤠 The French cowboy (me):
❝ Positioning is showing how you are the best at something your buyer NEEDS - even if they don't know it yet. ❞
