Across all industries, a proven technique for better coaching and onboarding has been peer learning. In fact, it’s reported that 65% of sales reps prefer peer learning, and for good reason. That’s why it comes in as our #3 biggest tip for sales training. 3. Leverage Peer Learning What is Peer Learning exactly? It’s the method of having co-workers on the same team educate each other over their shared workload and expertise. By having a pre-existing team member who’s already onboarded and fully trained show a new sales rep the ropes, it creates valuable lessons for new members as well as a bond between teammates. Peer learning has been proven to work because co-workers have a built-in respect for one another and feel more comfortable learning, talking, and asking questions to someone who is one the team as them, rather than someone viewed as authority. If you’re creating a sales coaching guide, you should harness the expertise of veteran sales people, before they leave the organization, and transform it into training material for sellers of all ages and experiences levels. A good example of how you can create peer learning content is video coaching technology. It enables reps to record video detailing their personal best practices, tips, tricks, and win stories. In this video they can answer frequently asked questions, do sales pitch roleplays, and give personal stories of how they closed deals effectively. Your “B” and “C” players can learn from the best practices of your “A” sales people and use real examples that make sense. After all, they do work at the same company, selling the same product, so learning from the best of the best, specifically tailored to your product, is a killer combo. Why do I habitually repeat my name and phone number slowly at the end of a voicemail? It might seem redundant, but I do it for the recipient's convenience and to increase the chances of getting a callback. It’s a small effort, but when dealing with stakeholders for the first time, it can make a significant difference. Think about it from the recipient's perspective: ◾ How often have you missed part of a message because someone spoke too quickly, there was background noise, or the line was poor? ◾ How often have you not had a pen to hand? ◾ How often have you realised at the end of the message that you wanted to call back? If you can relate to these, you’ll know how frustrating it can be to replay a message to try and catch the contact details. Granted, this might seem less crucial nowadays. We use the phone less, and many mobiles have a ringback option anyway. But I believe repeating my name and phone number at the end of a voicemail shows I’m considerate and thoughtful. I LOVE delivering group training days. The group discussion. Lively debate and stories. And people openly sharing their challenges as part of a commercial team. Yesterday was aimed at taking the commercial skill and confidence of the UNRVLD Client Partner team to a new level of performance. And this time is SO crucial. Many agencies and companies underestimate the ENERGY it takes… … the PROCESSING power in the brain needed… … to think differently. And that’s what this time is really about. I help people carve out time to think differently… because that’s where positive change starts.
