Flag football is becoming a powerful platform for female athletes, fostering a sense of community, providing scholarship opportunities, and now offering a potential pathway to the Olympics. The non-contact game has gained significant popularity, with dedicated girls' teams and leagues emerging globally. Eight states have officially recognized girls' flag football as a high school varsity sport, with more initiating pilot programs. Former University of Houston basketball player Jo Overstreet expresses the significance of the opportunity, saying, "This is so big for women to be able to say, 'I have a dream to play football' — and to actually know that opportunity is really there." The momentum behind flag football's rise is evident as it opens doors for women in sports. Highlighting a few flag football superstars: 1.Santia Deck: Known for her rugby and Legends Football League (LFL) career, Deck made history by signing the first professional full-tackle football contract with the Women's Football League Association (WFLA). 2. Diana Flores:A key member of the Mexican national team since 2014, Flores showcased exceptional skills as a quarterback, contributing to Mexico's gold medal win at the World Games 2022. 3. Kilolo Westerlund: A standout player at Liberty High School, Westerlund has achieved international success with the U.S. National Football Team, earning two championship titles. As flag football gains prominence, these athletes are breaking barriers and inspiring a new generation of female football players. People are taking notice of the Unicorn in waiting, Women's American Football. American Football is a $40B (NCAA National Football League (NFL)) in annual revenue business despite being the only major sport without a commercial Women's platform. Women's Football being named as an official participant in the upcoming 2028 Olympics will only accelerate plans. The X League has established itself as the Tier 1 platform within Women's Football with its largest built-in audience, digital presence of millions, worldwide television distribution, plans for (6) global leagues by 2032, and perhaps the most important indicator - being the aspirational destination league for the now thousands of girls playing the sport globally. Just the beginning.

Check out the gallery link below to get a closer look of the uniforms!
The Baltimore Ravens and Under Armour joined forces to provide custom uniforms for female student-athletes as part of the inaugural season of girls’ flag football with Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS). This past February, on National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD), the two organizations announced a collaboration with FCPS to pilot a girls’ flag football program at its high schools. With grant funding from the Ravens and uniforms from Under Armour, FCPS will field 10 teams this fall. On August 14, Under Armour unveiled the new uniforms for the girls’ seven-on-seven league prior to Ravens training camp practice. All 10 FCPS programs were in attendance and heard from Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. Globally, flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports, with more than 20 million participants in 100 countries and counting. The introduction of a girls’ flag football pilot to Frederick County marks a major milestone for the Ravens and Under Armour, who jointly aspire to pave the way for female student-athletes in every Maryland county to receive similar athletic opportunities. An official season kick-off takes place on August 30. At the conclusion of the season, Under Armour will host a championship game at “The House” at their Baltimore Peninsula Headquarters. The FCPS Champion will be recognized at M&T Bank Stadium during the Ravens game on December 10. See the gallery: https://lnkd.in/e4BinKtd #flagfootball #girls #studentathletes

This is it! A new day for women’s sports. 💪🏽 “Television viewership actually reflected inequalities in promotion and internal attention given to the men’s and women’s tournaments, not their inherent values.” You think? It’s never been about inherent value, only about equitable opportunities and support. NIL and social media have provided the platforms for these phenomenal athletes to show their value, through sponsor ROIs and personal branding and influence - to wider audiences than ever before. Now the next correction needs to be in how the NCAA rewards these Final Four teams. Men’s teams will take $10M each. Guess how much the women’s teams make for their university in 2024? ZERO. Progress is under way there too. The NCAA is evolving, as it must. #womenssports #sportsbusiness #sports #equity #collegesports

🚨 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗠𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁🚨 My basketball responsibilities are over for 23-24 as our season ended in the first round of the NEPSAC playoffs last night. Sometimes, the ball just won’t go in the basket and foul trouble on a small team is a killer. But man, am I proud of the way this group simply refused to give up. I challenged them in the locker room before the game to think about their ‘why’. Which person or people in their lives would they be playing for today. Many people, particularly these days in youth sports, talk a lot about individual statistics and accolades. “How many points did you score?” And not “How did the TEAM do?” I wanted them to find deeper meaning and motivation and pushed them to play for something bigger than themselves. There are always 5 people on the court at a time in the same jersey. There is always the support of teammates and coaches on the bench. I watched it ‘click’ for many of them in that moment. Stats do not matter. The team matters. The people that love and support you matter. The result wasn’t what we wanted, but it was an incredible feeling to watch them exert every ounce of energy they had for 32 minutes. To hear the girls on the bench encouraging their teammates the entire game. To watch them dive for every loose ball and fight for every rebound. Make the extra pass and pick up teammates when they hit the ground. Sports are so often a metaphor for life. Ups and downs. Highs and lows. This team went through it all. Together. And they became something bigger than themselves. They became a #team. And it was a privilege to be a part of it. Until next year. Go Bulldogs! 🐾🏀 #youthempowerment #youthsports #basketballcoach #basketballcoaching #independentschools #athletics
