St. Croix Hospice Info Visits - What's Covered & Why They Are So Important When people and their loved ones are choosing a hospice, many questions and concerns come to their minds. Everyone always thinks hospice is only for the final days of life. The weight I see lifted off their shoulders after I meet with them for an info visit, is truly why I am so passionate about working for St. Croix Hospice. ❤️ My goal is to help alleviate fears and share how St. Croix can support them. Not all hospices are the same and St. Croix Hospice is dedicated to providing the highest QUALITY of care. Whether someone needs hospice urgently, or even if they are not ready yet, I am here when you need me. Please feel free to share my direct cell number 608-477-2338, with ANYONE that would like to learn more about how we can help. We are now servicing 10 states in the Midwest and cover nearly the entire state of Wisconsin! My territory is the Madison VA and Sauk, Adams, Juneau, Marquette and Columbia counties. What's covered in an info visit: - Who is St. Croix Hospice? - Insurance coverage (Medicare/Medicaid and most private insurance covers 100% of hospice) Clinical care, medical equipment, medications, personal care supplies - Clinical care team: Who will be visiting? How frequent? What do they do? - Specialty Care Programs: What extra programs we offer that are outside "basic" hospice care - Medications and what treatments can continue - Hospitalizations and keeping their own PCP - Support provided for family - How we can help get service started and what does that look like - Discussing any fears or questions, having the "hard conversation" Please keep me in mind - the sooner someone has the hospice conversation, the easier it will be when services are needed. The #1 thing we hear is "I wish I would have known about hospice sooner" I am very grateful to be a resource for anyone, please reach out to me with any questions. Food is medicine! But this is a slippery slope.... We're moving to a "government funds everything" system. Medicaid wants to fund people's housing. Medicare wants to start paying for senior's food. I have little trust that the government knows what's best for me...and especially my health. We're doing this to ourselves people. If you don't own your health, the government is going to try to. That means higher taxes for everyone... That means less choice/access in overall healthcare decisions (look at the VA)... You have the power to stop this. You just need to take accountability yourself and promote true health within your circles. #healthcare #system #Medicare #insurance #government #business
Why won’t Medicare deliver food to sick seniors, if it could get them healthy?

Three Things I Learned In My Travels to Senior Care Conferences 1. People love independent living and want to stay there. Unfortunately some residents struggle to stay there. You need to toilet independently in order to stay and that gets tough. Hopefully after meeting us at LeadingAge facilities and therapists will recommend our toilet lifts so residents can age in place. The money it costs for a Dignity Lifts toilet lift can be saved if you avoid the move to Assisted Living for one month. 2. I learned what a Medicaid waiver is. I learned that this magical thing can sometimes be used to help people stay in their homes. It can buy equipment like ours that serves this purpose. The process is complex and varies by state, so I have more homework to do in order to help people get and use a Medicaid waiver. I'll study up and write more about it. 3. Home modification is a big and growing business. I found that there is a large and quickly growing industry of contractors and ATPs that help modify people's homes so they will never have to leave. They call this "Aging in place" which sorta means "stay here until I die". I get it. I love to stay home. I also know that toilet lifts fit well in this business. We were well received there. #seniorliving #seniorcare #ageinplace

In many ways, Georgia is a tale of two states. Atlanta Medical Center's closure two years ago and the ongoing struggle of healthcare access in rural part of the states have created a bipartisan effort to reevaluate how new hospital facilities are approved at the state level and whether Certificates of Need ("CONs") are sound policy going forward. While Georgia has kept the CON requirement for now, it has eased the rules for building new rural hospitals and specifically exempted the Morehouse School of Medicine's efforts to build a new hospital. KFF Health News does a nice job of using these changes in Georgia to illustrate CON trends around the country. Polsinelli's health care attorneys can help navigate states' varying (and ever-changing) CON requirements. #Polsinelli #Healthcare #Nonprofits #501c3 #501r #AffordableCareAct

As the new government gets to work, hospices are in crisis. Costs are rising, funding has stalled, demand for care is growing. Now some hospices are being forced to cut services. This can't continue. We’re supporting Hospice UK's campaign to make sure MPs understand the scale of the challenge facing UK hospices. Write to your MP now so they know what to do to support their local hospice: https://loom.ly/MkbMfhE #HospiceCare #NewGovernment #LabourGovernment

This is an important report as undoubtedly hospices need more funding, but I have a few criticisms. The report does not differentiate between the specialist and generalist provision of care at the end of life, and measuring funding of hospice services per capita feels extremely crude bearing in mind that there is huge geographic variation in need with variable demographics and variation non-hospice services caring for this sector of the population. Hospices undoubtedly contribute significantly to the provision of care in the last year(s) of life but they usually aim to care for those with the most complex needs, providing Specialist Palliative Care, they also vary in the exact services they offer. The majority of care for people in the last year(s) of life is actually provided by non-specialist health and social care services, although they certainly benefit from the support of local specialist services eg hospices. Guidance for ICBs should take into account the demographics/need of individual areas and include reference to the non-specialist services providing so much care to people affected by life limiting illness.
Hospice funding needs attention. A new report by a cross party group of MPs found that the postcode lottery of hospice funding means services they provide for dying people and their families, and the support they provide to the health system, are at risk. Alongside the APPG for Hospice and End of Life Care we’re calling for: 👉 The UK Government to produce a national plan to ensure the right funding flows to hospices. 👉 ICBs to commit to delivering the statutory requirement set out in the Health and Care Act 2022.
