Did you know that 99% of Core Bond funds have a negative price return over the last three years?* This means there can still be an opportunity to tax-loss harvest even if your bonds have a positive total return. By harvesting those losses, you can offset gains elsewhere in your portfolio to potentially reduce your clients’ tax burden and maximize their after-tax returns. BlackRock offers resources that help you identify bond funds with losses to sell and reinvest proceeds to maintain your asset allocation. Whether it's active or passive, tax alpha is a big topic as of late, especially as to how advisors can add real value (If you consider "value" as increase of overall wealth, which is definitely how most would). Obviously, we have to take into account the value of risk adjusted returns in comparing performance, but how taxes are managed are becoming understandably more important. The value of any alpha moves inversely with tax rates, so when we talk about tax management and tax loss harvesting it may not be as beneficial for everyone. But how do you truly define the value of a good advisor? Can the relationship itself add to this definition of value? Of course it can. For every investor. Let's never forget this. https://lnkd.in/gVj3scGa

This is the third consecutive year bonds have been down and advisors are having to face tough end of year conversations. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Taxes are one of the few factors in a portfolio you can exert control over. This year, 99% of Core and Core-Plus Bond fund price returns are negative, with the average Core Bond fund down 20% over 3 years.* Since bond funds tend to distribute the bulk of their return in income distributions, their price return can fall below their total return. This means there could be a huge opportunity to tax-loss harvest losses even if your clients’ bond funds have a positive total return. Explore BlackRock's tax resources to identify potential tax-loss harvesting opportunities and help your clients keep more of what they earn -> https://bit.ly/406bS7j #taxes #bondfunds #taxlossharvest
