It’s Mother’s Day and sadly I have some difficult news to share. I was let go from my job during maternity leave. In my role I was executing global social media strategy across two main Intel social handles, building and serving content to over 10M followers across platforms globally for one of the most integral groups in the company. A few of my many achievements: ⚡️Launched a LinkedIn Newsletter for Intel. Gained over 12k followers within 24 hours when the first article went live. Now over 36k followers and growing. ⚡️Planned and executed livestreams on various platforms for hot topics like #AI the most recent amassing 600 pre-event registrations with 276 live listeners and total views over 6.2k. ⚡️Managed a budget of 2M and led communications and executions with the agency. ⚡️ I’ve led cross-group collaborations between marketing, media, agencies, partners and more for product launches, livestream events and planned partner content on social. ⚡️Developed social media branding guidelines with brand team to maintain branding consistency across platforms and handles. ⚡️Advised and help implement change as part of a task force to reduce the footprint of our social media landscape. Resulting in sunsetting outdated and underperforming handles on various platforms and driving efficiency by relocating content to higher performing handles. My heart goes out to Kate and to so many other parents that have been through this. It’s hard work finding a job when you’re a new parent and even harder when you have been suddenly let go and have to think quickly about your circumstances and what to do next. One thing about me though: I have always been resilient when faced with great challenges and that drive has only become stronger after becoming a parent because I have a new found motivation. We’ve discussed the consumer culture’s use of games to pull us into its manufactured reality again and again, consuming our time with point gathering that begins when we’re school age children and continues to this day. But what my traumatized clients helped me recognize is that the marketplace found its way in to our lives at a much younger age. The marketplace planted consumer culture fundamentalists in our developing brains when we were still infants and toddlers. These inner fundamentalists stay with us, incessantly demanding things of us. They tell us, rather harshly, that winning in the corporate culture is our only way to live. “Forget about those things that are impossible to measure.” “Forget about connection, belonging, and togetherness.” “Go back to work.” “You’re only safe when you’re gathering points playing the culture’s games, striving for the high score.” (Coming next week, how this fundamentalist got in our heads, and what we do from here…) #ShareYourThoughts #culture #consumer #TodaysPost #reality

Are you working at a company that values who you REALLY are? This might be something specific to millennials, maybe, but it is so good to work at a company that also values your plurality of dreams/passions while trusting your skills and capacity to do a great job. I say that millennials might understand what I'm writing better because my dad's generation was focused on work, loyalty to the company, and building a life around that persona. Gen Z is all about being valued and making sure their identity is respected. However, us, millennials, grew up learning from our parents' world while trying to make it different for the ones who are now starting, so we faced this dilemma head-on. I'm happy that my career, for most of it, has been built with a passion for what I do while also being able to express and even share with colleagues other things I love, like #Pokémon, #TaylorSwift, and making MUSIC! I even go a step further to say that those things that make me truly happy also teach me a lot about what I do. Pokémon - that's pretty much how I used/learned my English skills since I was a child, as well as learned about training hard to achieve your goals and juat being a good person. Taylor Swift (and other musicians I love) - not only taught me how to increase my vocabulary, but also how to manage a career, how to see myself for who I am, how to persevere through eventual roadblocks, and a LOT of marketing knowledge! Music - diving into this world full-time for a while taught me more about SALES than anything else I've ever done, as well as how to do business, how to think like an entrepreneur, and so on. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that companies leaving and open space for their people to be PEOPLE is only helping them succeed even more. Happy people are more devoted to you than those who are just trying to keep a job. I am grateful for having a great career, a great employer, and a great set of passions that complement me so much. I could not have found a better Industry to work in.

Thought I'd do something a little different this New Year's and share my New Year's Resolutions/Plans publically. Doing this is kinda outside my comfort zone, but maybe it'll help me stick with it going into 2024. Hope Everyone has a great new year! -------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Getting a Job in the Games Industry. Kinda obvious, but something I will continue to work towards ad hopefully this will be the year it happens. 2. Learn about investing. No harm in making some extra money, and with all the layoffs that happened through 2023, I think it might be a good idea to get an alternative source of income. 3. Return to the gym. Long overdue, but I hope to get a good routine going and improve myself through the coming year. 4. Further my Korean skills. Bit random, but I've been learning Korean on Duolingo for about a year, so I'd like to work towards reaching a level where I can do minor conversation/interaction, rather than the very basics I've picked up. 5. Go on Holiday. I haven't been abroad since early 2015, so I'd like to see another part of the world during 2024.

"OMG is that the new GLÜXKIND??" That statement and the look of excitement that I saw on the person's face made my day! I use our smart stroller on a daily basis with our baby - often to provide feedback to our software team as they make small tweaks that enable our unique user experience that is the perfect combination of effortless movement, intuitive design and peace of mind. As a mom of two little ones, I also visit the local baby stores like West Coast Kids to buy new products. During my last visit with our little guy in the stroller one of their stroller sales reps swooped towards me and exclaimed exactly that : "OMG is that the new GLÜXKIND?? Where did you get it? I don't think you can even buy it in Canada yet!" It made my day! Not only did he recognize our stroller immediately, he knew our name and was genuinely excited about seeing it in the real world. This is somebody who demonstrates strollers for a living and helps customers find the right one. He sees the need for change in the market. His customers are looking for new products that support them in different ways, that fit their lifestyle and expectations of integrated, tech enabled products - not for the sake of technology but to make a real difference in the user experience for a user group who steps into the unknown.
