And an Airbus A380 has approximately 4 million individual parts produced by 1,500 companies from 30 countries around the world. Now that's a lot. In comparison, an average car is made up of about 30,000 parts. A whole lot goes into Aircraft Manufacturing and this week, we'd look at the main stages of aircraft manufacturing from Design till it's ready for flight. #VerticalAerospace (Vertical), a global #aerospace and #technology pioneer in zero-emissions aviation, has announced a substantial US$50 million investment from its founder, majority owner and CEO, Stephen Fitzpatrick. This funding infusion not only paves the way for upcoming financing rounds but also extends Vertical’s projected financial runway into Q2 2025. This capital injection will support the ongoing development of the certified aircraft design, following successful prototype testing this year. The certification #aircraft will subsequently undergo final regulatory testing before transitioning to production. This funding milestone arrives at a crucial juncture for Vertical Aerospace as it nears completion of its second-generation, full-scale piloted VX4 prototype at GKN Aerospace’s Global Technology Centre. The aircraft is set to perform a series of vital public flight demonstrations in 2024, including flights at the Farnborough International Airshow and to and from Heathrow Airport. These flights are expected to showcase the substantial technical and engineering advancements achieved with the VX4. Following this flight test programme and the planned public demonstrations, Vertical anticipates refining and finalising its aircraft design.

One of the most fascinating occurrences of the past few decades was watching the birth of a new aircraft manufacturer, Honda Aircraft. One of the most difficult challenges in aerospace is building a new clean-sheet airframe and clean-sheet engine, and Honda Aircraft has successfully achieved that. Here is the behind-the-scenes account not only of the first flight of the HondaJet prototype but how the program almost didn't survive. Considering the recent aerospace challenges, the aviation industry is heading toward... #LinkedInNewsMiddleEast We all are aware of the duopoly that exists in the world of aviation. In the commercial aviation space there are no larger players than Boeing and Airbus. While we know setting up an Original Equipment Manufacturing facility like the duo is not a mean job. Having said that, it is quite intriguing that no other solid competition came up in half a century! Considering the recent safety incidents, either of the two need to happen, a solid competitor to emerge or the duo to get their act better. Bottom line: Safety has no second chance!

Mark Jacobson well yes. Very few people are actually aware of the electric flight scene. Car debates dominate everything. On 100 Wh/kg the first Cessna was converted to electric flight. It is proven viable for a very long time. Eviation Alice is a commercial reality already even though many regular people do not take notice. https://lnkd.in/ewKSH9MC Pilot trainers are already moving to electric flight for economic reasons. Airbus / EADS has held 500 Wh/kg the holy grail for a while where electric aviation will really take off. this is the Bombardier, Saab, Dash-8, Embraer category for sure. Maybe we will even see A320 sized aircraft for short and mid range flights. We might also see transoceanic flights along the old Clipper Plane routes of island hopping for purely economic reasons of taking a charging break rather than spent expensive fuel on nonstop flights. A matter of how far the weight reductions of cell packing and structural lightweight battery integration into airframes can actually be pushed. Aka when this hockey stick curve exponential trendline will plateau. This is pretty much a death sentence for everything in synthetic efuels. It always comes back to #leadership action I’ve been working at NetJets short of four years. When I joined I had the feeling of being part of an amazing company and union of well-led professionals all dedicated to providing “one exceptional travel experience at a time” and I was excited to be part of a superior organization.  An organization striving to build a “deep moat” between itself and competition - safety & service the guiding words. Since COVID “passed”, demand for NetJets has skyrocketed - just as it has in the airlines.  That demand has led to a great opportunity for growth.  Rapid growth in a niche industry, while sustaining cultural excellence, is an incredible  challenge.  Changing the size of the organization and trying to sustain its excellence takes an increased effort by EVERYONE...and leadership for all company tribes to keep the team aligned is critical. Additionally, a dramatic transformation of pilot career opportunities in all facets of aviation has occurred.  Company goals for growth have increased the NetJets pilot force by 1000 great pilots at the same time the industry-wide demand for pilots has increased.  A fascinating problem for NetJets and NJASAP leaders to meet the goals of each organization.  Processes to select, onboard, train, and mentor >1000 new pilots who are seeing jet aircraft and becoming ATPs/professional pilots for the first time is a challenge and opportunity that can’t be met using the techniques of the past (by either the company or the union). As a student of leadership and organizations, I’m enjoying seeing it from the cheap seats as a member of both teams.  Still working with great individuals focused on safety and service but the growth of the company with the added pressure of an external stakeholder is not always keeping everyone on the team aligned.  A true leadership challenge.   Organizational change is the most complex thing for a leader to do - doing it while providing superior safety & service on over 600 flights a day requires leadership x 10.  Good luck #bosses!

Did you know that most Airframe Manufacturing Companies don't actually manufacture their engines? No, Airbus and Boeing do not manufacture their Aircraft Engines. Companies like General Electric, Rolls-Royce, Safran do. This week, we'd take a closer look into Aircraft Engine Manufacturers. Dearest AeroLovelies, Aerospace manufacturing is so diverse that no Company can do it all. And same goes for us all. We can't do it all. So it's best to pick up a specialization early and stop going by "Aerospace Engineer" and instead be an Aerodynamics or Flight Test Engineer. Which ever suits you.
