It was a hot one today - the Electrical Lineman Program students were out in the weather getting cross arms up on the poles - and learning the finer points of balancing on the pole while curling heavy beams. If this program looks interesting to you (or someone you know), send them our way - the next class starts on September 3rd, and we can guarantee that the weather will be cooler by then! #lineman #lineworker #lineschool #bluecollar #tradesman #electricallineman #linemantraining #linetraining

MESSAGE TO REGISTERED CREW End of the season.. It’s round the corner.. So, this has been a better season than last – looking forward to hearing your stories – good and bad - and how your season was?? I’m already working with clients for positions starting September/October, even into November for some, so I’m working ahead. Let’s plan forward?? Check the info I sent you at the start of your registration re the content to check for the job descriptions for the CV. If you know your finishing date for the season, ask the chief stew or captain if they can be your contact for reference. If you haven’t handed notice yet, that can be added later. Send any other new data on email along with the new CV – if you managed to get a Seamans Discharge Book/US visa (and add to the CV!), any new courses etc(copies please). Give me your finish date and we can try and catch up on zoom before your end of season so we have a plan.. If you are staying put, great, but do feel free to share with any great crew that I am busy. Look forward to seeing your shiny if exhausted faces soon Hang in there, season is nearly done TTFN Sarah #deckhand #stewardess #chiefstew #purser #engineer #yachting #yachtcrew

Mid month team training at Winsford Hill : Ropes 😀 Our training calendar each month has a specific focus, with July being “Ropes month” where the focus is on rope rescue equipment and techniques. 🪢 This training saw the team out on a stunning evening on #exmoornationalpark building anchors suitable for a variety of #roperescue situations. 🪢 In a round-robin, three groups built single, double and multi point anchors systems using natural features (#trees); looking at suitable anchor points on #vehicles; and were introduced to our new stake anchor system. 🪢 Breaking down complex systems into smaller components allows #teammembers to better understand the underlying principles, pose questions, take the time to explore different approaches, and gain confidence and familiarity with equipment and techniques. #exmoorsearchandrescue #mountainrescue #roperescue #roperescueequipment #roperescuetraining #roperescuetechniques #MondayMotivation #learningnewskills #hilux #hilux4x4 #landroverdefender #landroverlover #landroveroffroad

What was the intent? When miscommunication happens, often it is because someone did not understand the other person (for whatever reason). One of the things that I took away from RAFC Cranwell as an officer cadet in 1989 (and built into my NTS training and my own practice) was that if A does not understand B, it is B who needs to change or update their message. However, A does have some responsibility to say 'I don't understand' when B checks understanding (assuming they do the checking). Ironically, I used to use A and B in my classes, and people got confused. So I started to use names! It is much easier to identify who is doing the speaking then. "If John doesn't understand Kate, then Kate needs to change her message..." In the case of the sign below, there are (at least) three different possible meanings: 1- there are crocodiles here, so do not swim 2- the crocodiles don't swim here 3- hey you crocodiles, don't swim here And with one-way communications (the message on the sign to us), then the checking of understanding isn't that easy! #communicationisnoteasy #communication #nontechnicalskills
