Members of our Ranchbot team had the priviledge of attending Matador Ranch & Cattle’s Field Day in Dillon, Montana, to engage in discussions around #NaturalCapital, #RegenerativeAgriculture, financial resilience and the regenerative beef supply chain. Andrew Coppin, Co-Founder & CEO, joined Coby Buck, Director of Strategic Accounts at AgriWebb, and Sam Duncan, Founder & CEO of FarmLab, to discuss the generation, measurement and monetization of natural capital. Spanning across 400,000 acres with over 15,000 head of cattle, Matador Ranch & Cattle lead the industry in innovation and sustainability while maintaining the highest standards in agricultural and environmental practices. With the various challenges facing our industry, we are proud to work with such innovative partners. It's events like these that pave a path to resilience and preserve the legacy of #ranching for generations to come.

Building authentic, regenerative supply chains is an excercise in patience, a labor of love and creative masterpiece of value chain collaboration. Snacktivist, had made strides in developing this model with a series of exciting announcements coming this fall. 😉 stay tuned! We we are building this domestic supply chain web for scale so that we can share it along with embedded transparency and ESG, with other brands, private label programs and institutional buyers. But we can only grow this as fast as we can access capital. If you are interested in investing in regenerative agriculture as a global solution for eroding human health, climate change resilience and rural social and economic development, then please reach out to me so we can have a conversation about how you can help!
We would like to give a big shout-out to Steven Tucker! Not only is Steve an innovative pioneer in at-scale, High Plains Region Regenerative farming, but he is also incredibly patient and an awesome mentor! Working with small, emerging brands is not an easy path but when you are working with Steve, he just calmly carries on...... like a boss. We are looking forward to getting out to the farm for an official Snacktivist "field trip". Venango, here we come! And for those of you who are headed to Denver for RFSI, you will have a chance to taste his incredible regen sorghum in our newest product line which will be making it's debut during our breakout session on Wed at 3! Learn about how collaborative models can transform our food system, more on that tomorrow. Thank you Omid for initiating this critical conversation. Kenya's high production costs pose significant challenges for our competitiveness in domestic food crops, particularly affecting small and mid-sized farmers who struggle with low margins and unsustainable operations. In my long experience in the agrifood sector, I hardly know any commercially successful small or mid-sized farmers focusing on the production of domestic food crops. Even those successful at a larger scale form a very small portion of the farming community. The only farmers who seem to thrive in Kenya are those oriented towards export crops, including vegetables, fruits, flowers, tea, and coffee, which find better margins on international markets. However, even in these export markets, Kenyan farmers face growing pressures to pursue ever higher margin crops and lower costs as other lower-cost countries intensify competition in our traditional European markets. This dynamic has led to a decline in the competitiveness of our vegetable exports, underscoring the need for strategic adaptations and support for our agricultural sector to remain viable and prosperous.

This one really got me. Having built 3 farms, and closed them down (for a host of different and painful reasons), I really *felt* this one! But … I also know many farmers who have gotten it very right. Power to you and thanking all the resilient, hard working, courageous, passionate farmers out there. I’m excited to see what some players are doing to make farming attractive and profitable to our farmers Naivas Supermarkets FarmWorks AgricultureYi Li Peter Mwangi SunCulture Apollo Agriculture Rose Goslinga Pyramidia Ventures Talus Renewables to name a few.
