Do you feel scared to use your #PTO?👇 #teamculture #workculture #vacation #worklifebalance
I think not taking PTO starts in school. "Back in the day" when you missed a day of school you were behind and you had a lot of homework to catch up. Same at a job; miss a day and you have 2 days of work when you get back... Now I never see kids have homework and I think the younger generation uses their PTO. Interested in what others think...
In some sectors, unused PTO converts into sick days. However, I have worked for some organizations where the PTO is simply paid out if it is unused. As an educator, I always chose to be at school because the consequences outweighed the benefits. In addition, I try to model the importance of "showing up" in life. That said, this past school year, I uncovered a couple of gap days where I used my PTO when my students were not in school and when we did not have professional development. (I was proud of myself for being strategic and taking action; in other words, I hear you on self-esteem.)
I used to but not anymore. My work would just pile up and my boss would hammer me on why I was behind. That is my employer’s fault if they don’t have other people to help with my workload. When I come back from time off I just do what I can, and if I can’t get caught up oh well.
In my opinion, you are less likely to take off time when there is unlimited PTO. Especially if you are a leader.
The work will always be there. That's the point. The family, friends and even your health is not guaranteed. I'm happy to work for a company and leadership that promote taking time off, even with deadlines and fiscal year end.
Does that statistic account for PTO rolling over? Or is it 78% of Americans lose PTO outside of rolling it over for next year?
There are no replacement workers to allow for an extended vacation period. And when vacation time is used It is to repair vehicles
People are afraid to use their PTO because employers frown upon it. They actually think about firing you when you take advantage of it.
I actually lose money taking time off. I get a small flat fee per day as PTO where as I make more $ actually working. As a real estate appraiser, I do 1 appraisal and I am paid more than 1 full day off as paid vacation. So in my personal scenario, I don't like taking time off because I lose $. On average I complete 40-55(during busy times) appraisals a month and if I were to take 1 week off.....you do the math 😮 I love to work, I love to produce, I love to take time off but I am also a numbers person and it just doesn't add up.
