The Oakland Athletics' Move to Las Vegas Was Unanimously Approved! Major League Baseball team owners, cementing the sport's first relocation since 2005. A 75% vote of the 30 teams was necessary to approve A's owner John Fisher's plan, which baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred endorsed. Las Vegas will be one of four American cities that have a Major League Baseball (MLB) team, a National Hockey League (NHL) team, and a National Football League (NFL) team. The other three cities are: 1. Boston, Massachusetts: MLB's Boston Red Sox, NHL's Boston Bruins, and NFL's New England Patriots. 2. Chicago, Illinois: MLB's Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox, NHL's Chicago Blackhawks, and NFL's Chicago Bears. 3. Denver, Colorado: MLB's Colorado Rockies, NHL's Colorado Avalanche, and NFL's Denver Broncos. When the Oakland Athletics arrives in Las Vegas, there will be several financial benefits for Las Vegas. 1. Increased Tourism: The Las Vegas Athletics MLB team will attract fans from both the local area and visitors from other regions who travel to Las Vegas. In 2022, 38.8 million people visited Las Vegas, a 20.5% increase from the 32.2 million visitors in 2021. This influx of fans can lead to increased tourism, benefiting local hotels, restaurants, bars, and other businesses in the hospitality sector. Visitors attending games may also spend money on transportation, parking, and other related services. 2. Job Creation: The arrival of the Las Vegas Athletics will create jobs in various sectors. These include stadium operations, ticket sales, concessions, security, hospitality, infrastructure development, maintenance and other related services. 3. Increased Tax Revenue: The Las Vegas Athletics MLB team is projecting that the construction process spanning 2024 to 2028 would generate $38.8 million in tax revenue, while annual ballpark operations would create an average of $17 million in tax revenue. Tax revenue streams include ticket sales, concessions, merchandise, and player salaries. 4. Real Estate Development: The facility will be constructed on at least 9 acres of land where the Tropicana is located. It's next to the MGM Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. The New Las Vegas Stadium is a retractable roof ballpark to be built on the site of the Tropicana Las Vegas in Paradise, Nevada. Additional benefits include sponsorship, advertising, and civic pride community engagement. The long-term financial impact on a city can depend on the effectiveness of these incentives and whether the benefits outweigh the costs associated with hosting a team. https://lnkd.in/gegrG8ru https://lnkd.in/gXc_zj_x #MLBinlasvegas, #oaklandathletics, #lasvegasathletics,#loveMLB, #visitlasvegas, #rubencoronacontent

The Oakland Athletics will share a stadium with the Sacramento River Cats for three seasons prior to moving to #LasVegas, the team said Thursday. The Cats are the Triple A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. This kinda makes sense but dunno how the Sacramento team will feel having to play with a Double A [quality] #MLB team. It's a long time since Moneyball and all Billy Beane's awesomeness was ripped off by teams with scads more $$. Still, the A's, while enduring a recent three-game sweep by the Boston Red Sox [Go Sox!], drew about 4,000 fans per game, easily half being Sox fans. Sacto's stadium capacity is 10,000. The A's did average 10K last year, but either way it's #NoProblem In true Major League Baseball (MLB) fashion there's a club option for a fourth year. The A's will be called the Athletics or the A's for their time in Sacramento, dropping the word 'Oakland' — which can also only be good from a #branding perspective. Not just dropping the #Oakland part, but having no city at all on their name for four years. Then, what happens in #Vegas ... well, you know. Vegas a'course is already well into becoming a sports mecca — the now Las Vegas Raiders, the Las Vegas Aces, the Vegas Golden Knights — a boon for #convention-goers staying an extra day or entertaining #clients, sunburn-easily #tourists, and local residents. There are two Vegases after all: that 'what happens in' one, and the family-friendly one. Both can be pleased with the arrival of the A's, who perhaps will then have the dosh to keep players after working so hard to develop them ... only to see them currently and after several seasons decamp for hefty salary cities. They're building a $1.1B stadium in the #Nevada desert. Benjamin Siegel wd be proud. #baseball #sportsbusiness #sports #betting

Football management as a case study for real management.... "This decision creates the avenue for our next general manager to have the full opportunity to impart a new philosophy and structure onto our sporting operations, which begins with the critical identification of a head coach who will best align with this." Is it just me wondering why the club doesn't define their philosophy and structure, then find a manager to implement and evolve it. Or to put it another way: live your values! Not get a whole new set of values every time you change personnel after unsurprisingly not winning everything after one season. or maybe clubs get the managers they deserve https://lnkd.in/e94mtWpF
