🚡 The Story of the Schwebebahn aka “The Steel-Hard Dragon” 🐲 After a fascinating post by Giuseppe Masanotti about Sky Train tests in China, this context has been on my mind and led to the following thoughts: 🚡 In 1901, the first Schwebebahn (German word for Sky Train) was opened in Wuppertal, Germany, and was a technological marvel of its time hovering over the heads of the inhabitants and the Wupper, the river of Wuppertal, until today . 🌟 Later on, on July 21st 1950, it became the stage for a marketing strategy of a circus director, when Tuffi, an elephant, fell from the Schwebebahn into the Wupper, as it (obviously) was a very uncomfortable place for an elephant. Fortunately, she survived with minor injuries. 🐘🌊 But what lessons can we draw from this story? 💡 The past shows us that it's sometimes worthwhile to seek insights in old mistakes and seemingly outdated and oldfashioned ideas. What once seemed impossible or imperfect can be revitalized through modern innovations. ✌ The first Sky Train was built in Wuppertal back in 1901 and today we can get inspired by this technology and bring it to the next level combining this old innovation with modern technologies to build a better world! 🔄💡 At the same time, we should never forget that integrity and ethics are indispensable, even in the most exciting and determined plans. This story reminds us that our success should never come at the expense of others and that Tuffi never should have been inside of this Sky Train 🤝🌐 It's a tale that urges us to rethink our perspectives, blend the best of the past and present, and shape the future with a clear focus on innovation and moral values. 🌟🚀 #Future #Technology #Integrity #TuffiElephant #Wuppertal image from: faz.net

🚅 I recently went to France with the new Eurostar (love the branding 😍 ), but on my way back I managed to miss my connection. 🚌 In the end I ended up taking the Flixbus back, because at that point the prices were through the roof. 👁 It reminded me of this vision on future European train travel by Laura van Overhagen, commissioned by the Seamless Personal Mobility Lab at the TU-Delft. I really went all out animating this one. What do you think of our current European train travel? And how do you think we can tackle its current issues and competition from the aviation industry?

Paris = Silicon Valley? Yes. Loads of fun doing the attached interview in Paris with Clarence at @Streetfilms. His films are brief, highly visual, and packed with information. Very punchy content! There's a lot to love about the city. As Audrey Hepburn said "It's always a good time for Paris." But as a Silicon Valley careerist, I feel a particular connection with Paris, and as a result, spend a large part of each year there. For a number of decades, the Valley has had an outsized impact on exciting ideas that change the world, and I wanted to be a part of it. I left Canada to build a career here. Before that, for the longest time, Paris was THE central hub on the planet for novel thinkers, "dangerous" ideas, and "think fast and break things." I'm talking about the Enlightenment, Rousseau, Voltaire, & also the early 20th century when Picasso, Hemingway, Van Gogh, Gertrude Stein, Josephine Baker, and everyone with a vision for change swapped ideas at the cafés. But in the latter 20th, Paris languished as a poop-strewn, horn-blaring, traffic-infested, dirty river mess (OK, it was never terrible!) But lately, thanks to visionary leadership from Anne Hidalgo, her deputies, David Belliard , & some predecessors like Bertrand Delanoë, Paris is again an important example to the rest of the world. As before, some of the leading thinkers, like Carlos Moreno (La ville des 15 minutes) are drawn into the city to take, and give fresh ideas. But this time, the innovations are about the role of the city itself in the daily lives of its citizens. It is this zeitgeist. This courage to scrap the endless "committee" & "pilot project" mentality, and instead to forge ahead that attracts me to Paris now. This innovator's willingness to move fast reminds me of Silicon Valley startups, & it's equally energizing. And while the Bay Area layers it on top of sunshine, ocean, & mountains, Paris layers it on top of some phenomenal architecture and heritage. But this isn't reckless like Silicon Valley. The studies have been done. The examples are available from all around the world, from Copenhagen to Delft to Montreal to Mumbai. Cities need new ways of solving mobility, & we know some of the answers, but often don't implement them because people fear change. But, bestowed with long 6-year terms, the mayor of Paris has the leeway to take a courageous stand, suffer some arrows in the back, & then let the work speak for itself. Six years later, Hidalgo was reelected, the people basically responding positively to a referendum on her work. Now in her second and final term, she has not slowed down, in fact she's leveraged Covid lockdowns & the Olympics as doorways to forge ahead. A propos of nothing, the Olympics slogan is "Citius, Altius, Fortius - Communiter" or "Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together." There's no medal for slow progress. Allons vite. Go Team Paris! Thanks to Stacey Randecker for the intro to meet Clarence when he visited. The Cleantech Council

#Boatfluencer @ Acta by Jifmar; professional advice, private opinions. Municipal council committee member, committee member of the Workboat Association.
The people who know me, are aware that I tend to go wherever there's people, music and boats. Here's the proof; if you look at 1:27 onwards you may notice Acta Marine's presence, almost a minute further, at 2:36, you can briefly see me on a more serious note, speaking to the audience at #Seawork2023 on the emission reduction initiatives we're undertaking and what support from the industry we expect for that.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of participating in a panel discussion at Drive Sweden Forum centered around leveraging AI to enhance traffic safety. I emphasised the following points, based on my team's findings in Vinnova funded project AI Enhanced Mobility program - and welcome to explore the full story below: - First and foremost, city engagement stands as a pivotal factor. The journey towards a sustainable transportation system is poised to commence within urban landscapes. Hence, it is imperative for research endeavors to forge robust partnerships with cities and urban developers to collectively propel this transformation. - Secondly, knowledge plays a paramount role. There is a pressing need for a substantial elevation in comprehension amongst stakeholders involved in shaping our urban environments. Diverse perspectives are indispensable, and a wider dissemination of knowledge regarding AI's capabilities and limitations is imperative. - Lastly, data remains at the forefront, as always. It is imperative to meticulously identify available data, its accessibility, and its quality. Additionally, facilitating data sharing while understanding the requisite standards for the tool's efficacy is imperative.
Yesterday we held our digital Drive Sweden Forum - with nine project presentations, diving into the topics of next generation public transport, traffic safety and connected and automated vehicles and keynote speakers PRACHI J. V. from WOMANIUM in the US and Kai Kristoffersen from Norwegian Vy. If you missed the full event, below you can reach the keynote presentations as well as the program with links to the project pages where the respective recording can be found. A very Danish moment :) Yesterday, I visited a Scandinavian Maritime Fair in Copenhagen together with Finnish OliOil team - Pekka Aalto, Sten Krinpus, and Eric Ariel Rimón-Mazig. Was interesting to hear about the hopes and challenges of a startup like OliOil, and also about the maritime industry in Scandinavia. The marine music corps was a surprise but also nothing too surprising, knowing we were in Copenhagen after all 🎺🥁🎷🎶🇩🇰 #businessindenmark #maritimefair #gotomarket

Always lovely to see a "You've collected a new review" message from Clutch. YourFilm has a rating of 4.9/5 from more than two dozen detailed client reviews we've collected so far. The most recent has been submitted by Caine Smith at AirVu Media, who we were delighted to begin working with last year when their client, The Cayman Islands Tourism Board, needed us to follow a group of students during a visit to London for a conference.
