An eventful weekend is behind us. The first group matches of UEFA EURO 2024 have been played. What can we already summarise? Group A: Germany had a great start into the tournament. It is still difficult to say how the performance will be assessed. One of the reasons for this is that Scotland fell far short of their own potential. In the other group match, we saw a high-class and fast-paced game between Hungary and Switzerland. These opponents definitely have a different calibre to the Scots and from a German perspective, it's perhaps hard to imagine how an opening game against Swiss would have gone. We can definitely look forward to an interesting second game in this group. Group B: In this group, we have seen strong Spaniards. They are definitely a contender for the title at this stage. Croatia, however, have not managed to live up to their own expectations. The scene when Bruno Petkovic preferred to go for the penalty instead of pushing the ball into the empty goal was embarrassing. The result is well known. Italy had more trouble than expected against the surprising Albanians and will have to improve considerably in their next game against Spain. The match between Croatia and Albania should be interesting. Here, two teams meet at eye level for whom everything is at stake. Group C: Slovenia and Denmark gave us the first draw of the European Championship, including a football fairytale thanks to Christian Eriksen's goal three years after his cardiac arrest. This group will be very tight at the end. Both teams and Serbia are on the same level. England were surprisingly weak, as many experts feared, and were very lucky not to have equalised at the end. Harry Kane's statistics speak volumes. Southgate has to come up with something for the next game. With this defensive tactic, it will be difficult to progress in this group. Group D: The Netherlands had a very difficult time against Poland, who were in good form. There is still one game left in this group, so it's too early to say something more detailed. UEFA EURO 2024™ Final Draw 📅 Tonight at 18:00 CET, join us for the Final Draw of UEFA EURO 2024™ at Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie! The draw will determine the fate of the 24 best European teams, placing them into six groups of four for the epic tournament in summer 2024. Draw Structure 🔠🔢  Team Allocation: The 20 qualified teams, the host - Germany -, and the three eventual play-off winners are divided into 4 Pots (Pot 1, 2, 3, 4).  An additional 6 Pots (A, B, C, D, E, F) represent the groups and hold balls with group positions. Host Country Advantage:  The host country, Germany, is automatically placed in position A1. Drawing Process:  The draw kicks off with Pot 1. The first team drawn is assigned to Group B.  To determine the team's position within the group, a ball is drawn from the corresponding group pot (e.g., Pot B). Repeat this process until each team from Pot 1 has a spot in Groups B to F, and every team has a group position. Move on with the teams from Pot 2 and the Groups A-F, then Pot 3, and finally Pot 4, following the same steps. Spain earns win over Germany to advance to Euro 2024 quarterfinals Spain has advanced to the semifinals of an UEFA Euro tournament for the second time in a row MOSCOW, July 5/ Spain has snatched a 2-1 victory over hosts Germany 2-1 in extra time of a quarterfinal match in Stuttgart and made it to the semifinals of the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament. After the first half, Dani Olmo scored the first goal in the 51st minute, while Mikel Merino’s header in the 119th minute put Spain ahead in their Euro 2024 quarterfinal. Germany’s Florian Wirtz hammered home an equalizer in the 89th minute to force extra time. In the 8th minute, Olmo replaced Pedri, who was injured in a challenge with German footballer Toni Kroos. In extra time, Spanish defender Dani Carvajal was sent off the pitch after a second yellow. Spain has advanced to the semifinals of an UEFA Euro tournament for the second time in a row. 🚨 The x y UEFA #Euro2024 Quarter-Final Update Last week, we highlighted the avidness of football fandom in Portugal and Turkey, with the FPF - Federação Portuguesa de Futebol and Türkiye Futbol Federasyonu doing a great job of serving their community. The question is whether they can hang on to the top spots with The Football Association and FFF - Fédération Française de Football hot on their heels and with games to play. It’s also neck and neck between Real Federación Española de Fútbol and KNVB, with tonight’s results perhaps providing an opportunity for major gains on the x y Engagement Leaderboard. Elsewhere, perhaps the most important narrative is how teams handled their nation's exit from the Euros, most notably Portugal and DFB. There was little movement on the overall leaderboard, but sometimes less is more, and they made it count on a per-post basis in our best-of QF analysis, leading the way.
