🌟 One question I get a lot is: how do you choose your shows? 🌟 As with most projects, there's no one single way a theatre production is born. But for me, everything starts with the text. If the text excites me in some way, it goes onto my Dream List. It might not happen immediately, but it’s there, waiting for the right moment. But a great text alone isn't enough. We need the Golden Triangle: a stellar script, a director whose vision aligns perfectly with the piece, and a suitable venue. Without these three elements, a production simply can't happen. And, of course, there's always the financial puzzle - a fantastic play with a large cast might have to wait due to budget constraints. Smaller works with fewer actors are often less risky and easier to produce. So, I’m curious - what piece of drama would YOU like to see produced? Drop your suggestions below. Who knows, one day I might come knocking at your door, asking you to join us in bringing it to life. 😉 #Theatre #Brussels #Drama #Community #TheBridgeTheatre
Ollie and Jill want to tell you about their dream home. Some of the things they did to get it might shock you. But they want you to know they did it all for their baby... Get to know our new original production - Radiant Vermin by Philip Ridley and directed by André Agius is a wickedly comic satire which explores gentrification, homelessness and consumerism, about a young couple offered a way out of the housing crisis, and just how far they’re prepared to go for it. A hilarious and outrageous black comedy from internationally acclaimed 'master of modern myth’ (Guardian) Philip Ridley. Playful, provocative and viciously sharp, Radiant Vermin is a meditation on how far we will go to satisfy our materialistic greed. 📆 5-23 November 📍La Tricoterie - Rue Théodore Verhaegen 158, 1060 Brussels Subscribe to our newsletter to be one of the first to find out when tickets go on sale: https://lnkd.in/eYPFnbYk #RadiantVerminBrussels #Connection #TheBridgeTheatreBrussels #ConnectingThroughCulture #BrusselsCulture #WeLoveBrussels #PerformingArts #Theatre #Brussels #Brussel #Bruxelles #Bxl #EventsBrussels

Today's decision by New York Governor Kathy Hochul to indefinitely put off implementing congestion pricing has plenty of people in the New York City tri-state area relieved. It would have imposed an added $15 cost on cars entering New York City below 60th Street. One sector that should be pleased about the move is Broadway. The entire theatre district is located within the congestion pricing area. Traditionally, a third of Broadway tickets are sold to residents of the greater New York City region. And not all of those show goers take mass transit to get there. In fact, concerns over late trains or buses, or poor transit options, drive plenty of audience members to get in the car and head to Midtown. It's no secret that Broadway tickets are expensive. So is gas. Drivers have already traveled toll roads to get to the city. And if street parking is unavailable, well, garages can cost $30, $40 and even $50 for an evening. Want to grab dinner? A drink? You're looking at a very costly night out. Broadway ticket sales to buyers in the tri-state have not returned to pre-pandemic levels. An added cost just to get to the theatre was not going to help bring them back. #Broadway #Theatre #NYC

Broadway was first nicknamed the “Great White Way” back in 1902 due to the bright lights of the marquees, billboards, and posters. The Olympia was the first Broadway theater to use electric lights in 1895. But the theater scene is not where the internationally known, north-south thoroughfare got its name. Broadway is a translation from the Dutch phrase brede weg, or "broad road." Here’s a fun fact: Broadway follows the “Mohican Trail” created by the Lenape. #propertymanagement #propertymanager #propertycare #propertymaintenance #homemaintenance #nyc #residential #manhattan #history #broadway

When we discuss equity in education, we must also discuss accessibility and inclusion. It’s not just that schools should offer arts courses for their many benefits; it’s that ALL STUDENTS should have ways to engage in their school’s arts programs. Because ALL students deserve those benefits. If you know a school that needs some support, encourage them to contact us. If you know a school that’s already modeling inclusive, equitable practices, submit them for our ArtsEd Spotlight! #accessiblearts #equitableeducation #artseducation #specialeducation #washingtonschools #deia #equityinaction
Henry Seipp, the theatre director at Shadle Park High School, has created a space for special education students to join their classmates on stage. For this year's celebration, it will be a little more comfortable... 🤩 One hundred years after the first season, the Welttheater Einsiedeln will be staged as an open-air theater for the 17th time in 2024. For the 100th anniversary, there will be covered grandstands for the audience for the first time. These are currently being erected by our crew members in front of the baroque monastery church ⛪ 🛠️. They are nimble. Every move is perfect, and the grandstands are growing day by day, as you can see in the following video 😊 #eventstructures #eventbau #temporarysolutions #eventsolution #buildingbigmoments #buildingmemories #sustainability #connectingyou

Good read
"Sade Lythcott, the chief executive of National Black Theater, said she saw the moment as “less of a crisis than an opportunity to look at our value set. Audiences formed new patterns, they are not coming back in the way that they used to, and, this may be controversial, but there’s also a lot of natural attrition,” she said. “Where you see a lot of the pain is in larger organizations that feel too big to fail. They’re cutting staff, and it is devastating and indicative of a shift in audience behavior, but there’s also a right-sizing that’s happening, because of what was perhaps an unsustainable relationship with boards and philanthropies.” https://lnkd.in/g6RsGJCV

"Where would we end up if everyone could do whatever they wanted?" – But perhaps this is precisely the key – to self-awareness, further development and overcoming personal problems. In our new episode, we get to know Mohammad & Hussein Eliraqui and the ACT e.V. | Führe Regie über dein Leben theater group. Here, young people work together to develop plays based on the "veto principle" on topics that are hot on their minds. The rule of thumb here is that everyone can do (or not do) what they want – within a certain framework. This approach encourages personal responsibility and self-reflection on the part of the participants. The results are fascinating, sometimes provocative and sometimes moving. For this episode, we accompanied the group working on their new piece "A safe haven" („Zuflucht“). See for yourself. If you like to support meet THE GOOD ONES 👉🏻 https://lnkd.in/e4ag7FsF #VetoPrinzip #theatre #goodbringsgood You can always say NO! If, like me, you have been appalled by the racist violence this week, then read this excellent piece to check that your anti-racist stance is consistent.

This past week in London saw the launch of a new production of Fiddler on the Roof at the open air theatre in Regents Park. For those who don't know, this is the story of life among the Jewish community of a pre-revolutionary Russian village. The fictional shtetl of Anatevka & its inhabitants offer a historically accurate account of Jewish life in eastern Europe before the first and second world wars. It is the story of Jewish life beset by the violent and virulent antisemitism of the time & in particular the pogroms that terrorised Jews throughout the centuries. For clarities sake, this musical has nothing to do with Israel, this production wasn't produced by an Israeli theatre company & it didn't star any Israeli actors. It is however THE iconic Jewish musical, very much a symbol of Jewish culture & tells the story of the persecution that many families of British Jewry suffered at some point or other in their ancestry. So why was this production met with a vicious pro-Palestinian demonstration in the lobby of the theatre, in the cafe & outside the performance? Numerous protesters were filmed holding Palestinian flags & accusing theatregoers of “Zionism” as they attempted to enter to attend the show. They were there to demonstrate against a Jewish cultural event, with no connection or relevance to Israel. They were there to demonstrate against Jews. There's a word for that, antisemitism. The widespread anti-Muslim demonstrations taking place across the UK in the wake of last week’s Southport stabbings have been appalling to witness. Everyone involved in such hate crimes should be punished. But, if you’re busy condemning those racist demonstrations, but not condemning this racist demonstration, then you’re happy with racism, it’s only the target that you worry about. The same word applies to this as it does to those actually waving their flags & chanting their genocidal jingles, antisemitism. As we prepare to launch our feature doc, "We Will Dance Again", telling the story of the Hamas murder, rape & torture of 100s of young innocent people on Oct 7th at the Nova Music Festival, I wonder how many demonstrators will turn up outside cinemas around the world to harass those attempting to bear witness to the latest genocide against the Jewish people. A film made up entirely of first person footage, from the victims of the attacks phones & the murderers GoPros, celebrating the genocide being committed in real time. An Indisputable, factual account, not propaganda, not reconstruction, but a 21st century pogrom distributed & celebrated globally in real time. So whether you're one of those who march or one of those who fail to condemn, you're much the same & I can assure you it's not an anti-fascist, it's an anti-Jewish racist. https://lnkd.in/eVgFTnSr
