Connecting top Audiology talent with excellent practices and businesses throughout the West of the USA & Canada
I recently read an article about occupations and hearing loss. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), approximately 22 million workers are exposed to potentially damaging noise levels in the United States alone. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health reports that occupational hearing loss is the most common work-related injury in the United States. As an audiologist, which professional sectors do your patients typically represent, and what measures are commonly employed within their workplaces to mitigate and shield against additional hearing impairment? May is National Better Hearing Month and National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials (NAARSO) and the American Academy of Audiology are encouraging members to make an appointment with an audiologist for a hearing test. Hearing loss impacts a large number of Americans. According to a study by the National Institutes of Health (NIDCD), approximately 15 percent (37.5 million) of American adults aged 18 and older, have some trouble with hearing and approximately 28.8 million could benefit from the use of hearing aids. As the baby boomer population ages, more Americans are forced to face hearing health challenges. Growing numbers of younger Americans are also reporting hearing problems. While age is still the greatest factor in hearing loss, many younger people also experience hearing difficulty due to exposure to loud music and noises including occupational noise.
